jesterwalker69 0 Posted August 27, 2009 Report Share Posted August 27, 2009 Right the problem is if i've been giving the car some beans it becomes a mission to get 2nd gear. The lever itself goes into position then when i get back on the gas it just rev's, indicating i'm still in neutral. I have to give the gear stick a wiggle about in neutral and then push back into 2nd and it will then go.I am assuming this is happening due to stretched cables as i don't miss any other gears and it only happens after i've been thrashing the car about a bit - on rapid changes. Normal driving is fine.There is also a fair bit of play in the gear stick.Rang VW and been quoted £399 fitting and parts. Nigh on £70 per cable and 3.5hrs labour. I need the work done by Friday - in time for Action!Before i commit can anyone A) suggest another reason y i might get this problem and does the price seem about right?Any help will be much appreciated as i need to pretty much commit today to get the work done on Thursday!
