redlight26 0
my vr6 usually runs at 90 degrees but over the past 3 days it has been nearly 110 degrees, i was putting it down to the heat we have been having nut i just been out in it now and it is doing the same, and it is now a lot colder out there. the temp never gets higher than that but im just wondering if any of you knows why all of a sudden it has started to do it? tomvr 0
Are the fans cutting in?Mine were'nt always cutting in but didnt catch it soon enough, did this for a while before it caused terminal damage to head gasket.
redlight26 0
yeah they cut in and also after when i park they are on for a lot longer than usuall
legvw 0
Have you checked your oil? Level, and when was the last time it had a service? There is a water/oil cooler infront of the engine that transfers heat between the 2, if your oil is old it may be getting hotter, and transfering the extra heat to your water. Hairyarse 0
Good point. On my mk1 noticed after an oil change temps were much lower - worth changing and not too pricey
Benattwell 0
i have had my head gasket changed about 6 weeks ago, my fans come on when sitting about, temp goes just over 90, i found leaving the ignition on the fans still go crazy but cool it down quicker than just turning it off totally
redlight26 0
i'll try an oil change, it does seem to go through oil pretty quick, i did try and give it an oil change a few weeks ago but for all my trying, could i get the filter off no! so any tips there would go down well, thanks
CALICO 130
you might need a lower temp fan switch to help would then cut in at 70 celsius
redlight26 0
i was worried of a head gasket problem.
CALICO 130
It is possible take it to a decent garage and get them to do a sniff test (checks for combustion in water if oil is not showing or fudge not present in oil system)
CALICO 130
its a 36mm socket for the oil filter
craggsy 91
Do easy and cheap things first...oil/filter......new stat.....rad switch.......etc etcThen it might be expensive, rule out things first
L55KE B 1
Have you checked what temperature the fans are actually coming on? I had a similar hot running problem with mine and i noticed the fans were coming on later than usual it turned out it was the fan motor that was faulty, it is a 2 stage fan and on mine the 1st stage packed up so it was coming on late when it had reached the higher temperature for stage 2. I replaced the fan and problem solved. Its quite easy to check the motor you just need 2 bits of wire and battery
