acf8181 0
i don't think it does have a realy. if you just turn the ignition on and put you finger on it you should feel it vibrating (tho you should be able to hear it as well)
stuey 0
Hi, stupid question, on my C&R service they said 'electric water pump leaking/not working' on the faults section, i take it this is the pump that runs on after switch off to cool the head? Where is it exactly so i can have a look? Thanks
acf8181 0
i'm not sure it does run on after the ignition is turned off, i think its just there to 'help' the normal punp.anyway, its located being the coilpack (or dizzy on '92 cars) and is cylindrical in shape. costs about £90 new. VR6Pete 1,455
i thought that it only came on after a certian temp?
stuey 0
Cheers, it is obviously plumbed into the cooling system, shouldn't be too hard to find. Are these known to be troublesome?
acf8181 0
well, the casing on mine came apart and dumped all the coolant on the nurburgring nordschleife...thankfully the track was already wet from the horrendous rain and it was only at the starting gantry.my new one is on all the time. stuey 0
C&R said it's not working, how can i tell if it is working with the engine running, i can't disconnect it!
stuey 0
Having looked through all of the posts re this, i assume the pump runs when the ignition is on, and i think i have found it. I guess you can tell if it works because you can hear it running, so i will check it. It looks like it may have leaked a little sometime as i can see a stain running around it near the bottom, but i don't seem to lose any coolant. Can someone give me an idiot's guide in changing them, i don't see any particular probs changing it as i need to take the ignition pack out to check for some cracks. It is making sure i don't get any airlocks after i am more worried about. Thanks for any help
acf8181 0
ok, guide to swapping aux water pump...undo plug leads from coilpack (or dizzy on '92 cars/'rados), remove plug lead guide (just the right hand bit that covers coilpack) held by three spline bolts (two on top, one round back),remove coilpack (4 allen ket bolts and disconnect wiring harness),unplug wiring from top of aux water pump and pull pump forward gently till the rubber clips release (may need to help them a bit with screwdriver or something),disconnect hoses from water pump (if you wanna drain coolant first there is a coolant drain plug on the underside of the big plastic tube that runs along front of block near oil filter). refitting is reverse (i'd recommend new hose clips). chrisgbrindley 0
So does the Transporter van, I bet its cheaper to buy a Transporter one rather than a VR6 one. They always seem to put the price up when you mention VR6!
stuey 0
I checked mine, with the ignition on i can hear it humming so it seems to be working, although i don't know if it's intermittent. I suppose i can check it now and again to see.

chrisgbrindley 0
I had to buy a front fog light for an XJ6 it was £175 from Jaguar or £75 for an upside down Ford Focus one! I have sorted my pump now there was something wrong with the loom from when I had my engine swap I just ran an ignition live to it & it seems to work fine :-)
