The Monk 50
When I'm driving, either on or off the throttle, there is a loudish humm coming from the engine bay. It isn't the fans.I've tightened up the manifold but it's still there, I've lost a slight amount of water but I'm not getting white or blue smoke from the exhaust even when I thrape it. So I don't think the head gasket is faulty.Anybody have any clues?Cheers in advance guys n gals.
spindat45 0
If you can't hear it on idle or at high revs when stationary then it could possibly be a wheel bearing. If the humming gets faster/louder with an increase in speed then that would point to the same thing. A bit hard to pin point which one if it is a wheel bearing. If there is a garage locally with 2 post lift, see if they'll let you get it on there and have a listen underneath.Kevin
gavinvr6 0
if its doing it whilst stationary and it increases and decreases with revs check the belt tensioner pulley. mine started as a humming noise then graduated to a scraping noise as the pulley bearings went dry
The Monk 50
Cheers chaps, will take a look. Have had experience with taper wheel bearings and normal bearings too, so I know it isn't that and I have checked.I'll have a check of the pully tomorrow.Cheers.

The Monk 50
Yes, it is the pully, going a bit dry and the aux water pump is on its way out.
