ip 0
About to give the car a basic service and was wondering if anyone has had any bad experiences with engine flush? I used flush on my old polo and found that it dried out the bearing which supported the cam as it passed through the end of the head to the dizzy. Resulted in a horrible screeching noise until I re-oiled the outer side of the bearing. Used flush twice and same thing happened both times. Strange but true. So, stopped using flush on the polo. However, I have heard that flush can help quieten down noisy tappets on the VR so might like to give it a shot (mine is getting a little tappy when cold). Anyone got any experiences/tips about using flush on the VR lump? I've got 100k on the engine and it runs pretty well except for the tappety noise.Cheers,ip
VR6Pete 1,455
I wouldnt bother on higher mileage cars...I'd personally go along the route of replacing the hydrolic lifters?
ingham 5
No to Engine flush - VW do not endorse any for use on their engines
ip 0
Interesting, the fact that VW don't endorse engine flush certainly tallies with what happened to my polo. I was just curious if it might improve the tapping a little until spring when I can get the lifters replaced (I don't have a garage and it's getting cold and dark out).ip
CorradoVR6-n.o.s 0
avoid it mate, loosens off all the crud in your motor just for it to be drawn up in the oil pump etc.Seen many a dead motor due to this after a flush.Best do more regular oil changes. If my oil goes off its gold colour...its changed! Dave_ciw 507
My Mechanic said no to flush but he highly recommended Forte Top End Tratment ..... Which to be honest did its job on my VR. It is meant to soften all the seals inside the engine making them swell to help reduce smoke and tapping noises. A bit more expensive than engine flush but it works....
