[stuff that came out was 'brownish'!] Expansion tank says use G11 [what colour is this?] but previous threads say use G12+ which is Pink and compatible with everything that came before? What should I use?CheersJohn

Karr-Man 0
i think G11 was blue, if yrs was brown that means either it was mixed or part of yr system is corroding insidewhen i drained mine to change the rad it was brownish so on refill i just used plain water... ran it for a few trips then drained again to clean out any crap that was left behind...this was when it was warmer tho... i wouldnt leave it over night with standard water at this time of year
Timah89 1
Thanks guys - rather than brown it was probably Orange and definately not Blue. My brother has an Audi A4 with G12 which is also Orange. Sounds as though I should top up with G12+ [or G12++!] until have the time/weather is betterCheers
gavinvr6 0
what difference does it make what antifreeze you use?. im only asking as i have a very large barrel of antifreeze that i use for work, and its blue if that means anything
richievr 1
G11 has been replaced with G12, which is replaced by G12+which has now been replaced with G12++all vw group vehicles use this..
richievr 1
when i drained mine to change the rad it was brownish so on refill i just used plain water... ran it for a few tripsi would be VERY careful of that.a vr6 can overheat if full with just water - it NEEDS some antifreeze/coolant to keep cool
