mk. 2 gti 1.8--->2.0 conversion

Recommended Posts

this will apply to simon(six appeal) really, but if anyone else has some tips i'd be gratefull. looking to upgrade my 1.8 pb engined mk.2 golf to a 2.0 bottom end. what mk.3 block(or audi) do i need, (think its the 2e?) and what ancillaries do i need from the donor engine to mate up to the pb head/zorst? will the cable change box go in as well? or am i better sticking with the 1.8 box/ratios? cheers peeps!

Ok, Matt still at work, so will try and remember it all.

But may have to add the odd bit here and there.

You will need:

1 x 2.0 block, crank and pistons etc..... (will get engine number of mine for ya!)

1 x front breather blank. (TSR supply these, or I made mine)

1 x distrbutor adaptor ring if you want to stick with 1.8 dizzy. (you can use the 2.0 one again TSR do these, or I made mine)

1 x front plug (TSR supply these or I made mine)

1 x exhaust plate off Mk3 unit

1 x little clip adaptors for the side plates (u can make them easily)

1 x 1.8 8v head, although works a lot better in conjuction with a modded one.

All I can think off at the mo. will update it when I get a chance with a full list, or TSR know about it all and were very helpful.

Just carried out this conv. for my younger brother , running a digi-pant pb.

Just basicly obtained a broken passat, running a 20L 2E, used the complete block with pb mk2 head, and metal head gasket from ABF 16v.

Run up @ 138 brake @ stealth...

not bad for a £50 engine, flowed head and mild cam :)

ive got the 2ltr 16v conversion from tsr in my mk2..............the car pull's very well.....8v performance low down and 16v up top...she pulls clean up to 7100........a complete transformation from the 1800 16v ;)

I can agree here. Having driven Tommy's 16v on numerous occasions...i can confirm it's very lively!. Great fun to drive.
