I have a question for the more knowledgeable of you out there in VR6 land..

I plan to swap my knackered OBD1 engine for a OBD2 engine but retro fit it back to OBD1 (if that makes any sense)..

The first problem I have come across is that the person who removed the new engine. broke one of the exhaust manifold studs. Trying to get it out I have broken three stud extractors.

After all that I had a brain wave to use the manifolds from the old engine on the new engine.

The problem is the old engine?s manifolds have a tube that connects them together where as the new engine?s ones don?t.

Does any one know what this tube does? And can I just block the holes???

don't worry about the tube, it'll make no difference to the car. you can bung the wholes up, but i'd just leave the tube on myself.

originally my car had the tube, but then i got a broken stud so replaced the manifolds with ones with no tube.

its actually better to have the tube, it is used if they set up the car on a rolling road.
