sixspeed 0
Ok. The Golf VR I bought is a 'N'plate '96, BUT the engine was replaced a couple of years ago for Corrado 2.9 lump. The thing is, how can I tell what age the engine is (or at least get an idea). The code on the engine cover says 'AAA', but a mate of mine seems to reckon thats a Golf engine code, so it's quite possible that they used the same plastic engine cover from the original engine. Are there any discernable differences just looking at the exterior of the engine etc that I could use to tell the engine code/year etc? How can I tell if its an OBDI or ODBII engine? Or did the Corrado only come in one flavour? -andy-[ Edited ]
DundeeDub 0
the corrado only came in ob1the golf/vento both used the same code AAA for the early models the corrado used a different one i think
acf8181 0
AAA is deffo 2.8, i think ABV is 'rado.check the engine number to see if it really is a 2.9.'rado's were all obd1, but your car is obd2, so either they've changed all the wiring or converted the engine to obd1...post a pic of your engine bay will you so i can see, i'm curious? six appeal 53
You can just use the 2.9 block, so they may have just done that and used the OBD2 head and ancilleries.Giving you a 2.9 OBD2, as Speedo has in his R plate VR6.

sixspeed 0
I'll try and take a couple tonight to post.... The work was done by Midland VW, so I might try them and see if they remember, but like I say it was a while back.-andy-
sixspeed 0
Just called Midland and spoke to Jolie (sp?) who remembered the car (bit of luck!).Apparently it has a 2.9 bottom end (as six appeal said), and the box from the Corrado (he seemed to remember it was M-plate). The cylinder head was kept original, so I guess that means its still ODB2? Also said he remembered it being quite a quick car! Once I get the misfire sorted out this weekend (hopefully!) i'll be able to confirm that or not.. Interesting to know anyway... So I guess just being the bottom end, what does that mean for parts etc? Do I buy a Corrado Oil Filter? or Golf? Plugs/leads? Or are they all the same anyway?-andy-
