New to the world of VR6

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I have just purchased my first VR6 having lusted after them for some time. I have a completely standard 97 3 door highline and am delighted with the performance and condition of the car. I must warn you that I am not in the least mechanicaly minded and enjoy driving and not tinkering with cars, I prefer to let the professionals do the tinkering!

Doing my research prior to buying, numerous sites say that you can expect 31mpg on a motorway run but mine didnt do better than 26mpg on a recent, relatively sedate 5 hour motorway drive. The car has only had one pensioner owner from new with VWFSH and has only 40,000 on the clock.

Also, when turning the car on it says OE2 in the mileometer which I am aware means that it needs a major service and I have been quoted as £250 plus VAT which sounds reasonable, the quote was by Ibrox garage VW Specialists of whom I have no knowledge and was wondering if anyone has used them in the past and what exactly a OE2 inspection entails.

Anyway, it is my absolute pleasure to finally own the car of my dreams and would appreciate any tips or advice that fellow members can give.

Cheers

Trash

IIRC the way the codes work is:

IN01 - means u have reached the specified distance (mileage) since last service

IN02 - means u have reached the specified time for a service ie. 1 year since last service

i think theres also one called OEL or similar which means u need an oil change but i dont think u get this on UK spec cars

thats just from memory so im open to correction

re:MPG totally depends what speeds u were doing on the motorway the difference in MPG between 70mph and 90mph is larger than u might expect

Well wot they said.........

The only piece of advice is lower it. Unless you are a fan of altitude sickness or Sea/motion sickness. Lower it. It will transform the car. You only need 20mm that then means you can still live with it daily and deal with speed humps etc etc etc etc..

Trust Us all on this... Even Jeremy Clarkson once said on top gear... lower it by 20mm and the car is spanking...

check out your service schedule and see what needs doing, just because its a year since yr last service doesnt necessarily mean that u need a "major" service.

Also u could go to the guys that gave u the quote and ask them to explain exactly what u get for yr money (which parts will be replaced etc,)
