Karr-Man 0
just got my vagcom connected up to find out whats wrong with my ABS but i cant seem to get a connection to the ABS module...connecting to the engine module seems to work ok however when i try to connect to the brake module VAGCOM spends a while trying and then comes back with the message "Excessive Comm Errors." while it attempts to connect to the ABS module the code "g71m=-1" appears in the connection details box (i dont know if this is relevent but the code doesnt appear when connecting to the engine module)does anyone have any idea what my problem is???? VR6Pete 1,455
I had a similar issue with my ABS, where as by my ABS light came on, but as soon as I connected the vag-com it couldnt communicate with the ABS ECU, I thought ahh feck, but it just ended up being an issue with a disconnected diagnostic wire from the fusebox area to the ABS.. was a grey wire. connected it up, off I went, was just a faulty ABS sensor....worse case scinareo is new ABS ECU / brain. Karr-Man 0
was the disconnected wire obvious?? im not particularly keen to start taking out carpets and dashboard, not until the weather improves anyway....
VR6Pete 1,455
When vince found the "disconected wire" he was only poking about in the fuse box area, didnt pull any carpets or dash out... but obvously Vince knew what he was looking for, which tends to help

hallie 0
Did you get the vagcom lead from ebay?I bought one form a hong kong seller to try and diagnose an intermittant abs fault. It will talk to the engine ecu and the airbag module but just says excessive comms error when connected to the abs (It does make the abs light flash while attempting to connect)94 obd1 vr6I still have not found the problem !!Martin
lowvr 0
mine does the same :S
Gazbarber1982 3
Sorry for bringing up old news but the vag-com cable I got is a Hong Kong special and does the same! I can do engine and airbags but cannot for the life of me connect to the ABS without Excessive Comms!! Giving the weatgher at the present minute, I wouldn't mind trying the ABS / EDL but for the last 2 years I've been stuck in the dark with my vag-com and cable although my distant friend's snap-on diagnostics machine could read the faults no problem. Any information would be much appriciated on this subject and I wouldnt mind paying (a small fee) to have it checked out. Thanks to everyone in advance and I hope everyone has a very good xmas!!! thegoth 5
It's better to resurect a thread than start a new. :-)it's to do with the port settings. I'll see if i can find the thread that fixed mine......
thegoth 5
the OBD1 does reveal ABS codes. Or at least should. It does seem common that 'too many comms errors' are detected. Which is my current problem :-(I got this from the corrado forumGo to hardware - device manager' date=' ports (com + lpt) and properties of communications port (usb) usually com4 (or whichever com port it uses) and in the advanced settings turn down the "latency timer" to 5Obviously if it doesnt work its not my fault and if it does i'll gladly take the credit......... :-p [/quote']

thegoth 5
you need to turn down the 'latency timer' to five as detailed above your last post
