  1. Did you get the vagcom lead from ebay? I bought one form a hong kong seller to try and diagnose an intermittant abs fault. It will talk to the engine ecu and the airbag module but just says excessive comms error when connected to the abs (It does make the abs light flash while attempting to connect) 94 obd1 vr6 I still have not found the problem !! Martin
  2. Mine used to do this every now and then after a few attempts to fix it that did not work I changed the motor for a second hand one It has not done it since. I think its a fault inside the motor.
  3. Did you get your vagcom from ebay? My lead (and copy of vagcom £12) from Hong Kong will talk to the engine ecu and the airbag ecu but not the abs ecu (excessive comms error) Very annoying considering that I bought it because I have a imtermitant abs fault. I guess you get what you pay for !! Took it to a garage and they had no problem talking to the ecu.
  4. Nice to see another person in Southampton (where abouts?). Your free car sounds like a result. Mine was cheap but i had to spend a lot of time sorting it out. If you need any help sorting yours let me know. I have just got a vagcom cable from ebay today if you have any diagnostic problems. Mine is also a L reg Cheers Martin (in Chandlers Ford)
  5. Right I took the car to a garage today and they pluged their diagnostics into it, it found 5 logged faults on the abs. They cleared them so hopefully they wont come back !! Having seen that it is possible to talk to the diagnostics I had another go with the vag com. Changed the com port settings and it works !! :-p Connects to the engine ecu and the airbag system. (no faults found) But it wont talk to the abs !!! (the whole reason for getting the vag com) Vag com tries to connect 4 times and the abs light on the car flashes as it tries but in the end it says "excessive comms error" Does anyon
  6. Hello all, I have only had my VR6 for a few weeks and it has deleloped a intermitant fault with the abs. Posted another thread but no response yet http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?201247 I have however bought a vagcom cable from ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220160335570 ) in the hope of fixing it but I cant get it to talk to the car. The car is a 94 golf vr6 with the obd2 16 pin style plug. Have I bought the wrong cable if the car is obd1 even thought it has the obd2 plug. The vagcom software finds your cable on com 3 and the led l
  7. Hi, I have only had my VR6 for a week and it has developed a fault with the abs system. Most mornings (but not all) when the ignition is switched on the abs light stays on (abs does not function). However after a short journey to work (3 miles) sometimes after switching the engine off and restarting the abs light will go off and the system will work. It seems to be an intermittant fault that I was thinking it was temperature related, as in it works when its warm but not when its cold but this is not always the case!!! I have unplugged the connectors and given them a clean and a spray with wd40
