amazak 3
Hello All,My wife quite fancies the MK5 Gti, so we are currently looking for one, anyone knows what these cars are like, common issues to look for on test drives and so on? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Also read somewhere that the DSG gearboxes are problematic, not sure what to go on?Thanks

Toby 0
I love mine!! I've got a red 5 door Mk5 (which my wife uses most of the time) and it's a lovely car to drive, fuel not too bad either (managed average 33mpg on a run to France last year and wasn't hanging about). We've got the standard manual box though.
tonk 0
Best car vw have made in my opinion, my brother has one with dsg and revo'd to 270 bhp. he's hade it 5 months and has coverd 16k miles with no problems what so ever. i belive the dsg box can handle 400bhp before problems arive. jaysVR6 2
Agreed, awesome power with a Revo map. Mark has an Edition 30 and matched with the DSG it's a match performance wise with Millsy's Turbo'd Syncro (albeit on low boost!) a good 300bhp though. I just can't get over how good the DSG is.I even looked at an E46 M3 SMG over Christmas and the salesman had no argument with me when we were discussing semi auto boxes, the DSG wins hands down considering all the bad press SMG has had.I'm struggling to decide over a new R32 or Ed30 with a Map. The whole tunability issue between the two is completely throwing me.
pimpcat 0
the r32 is a monster tho plus its 4motion which is better at putting the power down
vr6madmike 0
Id love an edition 30 with a rmap they look so much better for the colour coded bits, if I wanted 4wd tho id be looking at a remapped S3, bye bye R32!
tonk 0
Go for the e30 with remap mate if i was you SOOO much more fun then the r32 TRUST ME!
tonk 0
oh yea must not forget dsg frown in to the mix
amazak 3
I wish I could afford the E30, but with the mk5 we will have 3 cars, might have to sell one, that will be a difficult decision......the search is on, will post some pics when I find one, thanks for the input guy's. jaysVR6 2
Sorry fella, didn't mean to hijack your thread! Gotta be DSG whatever, I drove an SMG M3 over Christmas and the difference between the two is amazing. The SMG seems almost agricultural!!
amazak 3
Ok guy's finally got the car, and WOW, what a car? Maybe the best or 2nd best Gti ever? Did not get the DSG as I could not find one for the right price. Will put some pics up soon although it is standard for now.

Would love to have it remapped but really can't afford it at the mo, need to sell the vr first. Do miss the noise from the vr though. Three cars for now, well unless somone takes the vr Cheers
Toby 0
I must admit that's the one thing I missed when I didn't have a VR - the noise. As great as my GTI is the four pot just never comes close to sounding as good - hence why I bought a VR as a 2nd car!
