rigs 0
Use a late headgasket from a Sharan vr6 - it should be a three peice metal headgasket rivited together. Carefully cut out the rivets, discard the middle peice and replace with your head gasket spacer plate. No sealant required.
FishWick 21
I recommend you spend some time really cleaning up the block and head faces. Those metal gaskets are intolerant of mating surfaces that aren't 100% flat, especially around the non return valve adjacent to cylinder 1.I would strongly recommend using Permatex Copper Spray adhesive to seal the head gasket, which you can get from J & L Industrial supply - http://www.jlindustrial.co.uk/PMX-80697H/SEARCH:KEYWORD/product.htmlTurbo sizing. It's a big subject and the turbo choice is down to how you like your engines to behave. If you want torque very early in the rev range and are prepared to sacrifice some low speed traction, then T04E or GT30R are good and will do 450-550hp. If you want a more progressive delivery with more top end bite, then a T04S, GT35R are nice turbos. 650hp capable.I would personally get a 0.82 A/R Exhaust housing.

ytzvrt 0
Man that hurts. I feel your pain, the guy I bought my 95 gti from used the wrong coolant, and the head oxidized and pitted deeply. I had the same problem, but it wasn't eaten away too bad, so I milled it and I was in the clear. On the other hand, I'm stuck with obd1 too. I want to get around 400 hp, as well but not sure of the software yet. I'm open to suggestions.

ytzvrt 0
If you want 400hp, your gonna need stand alone, obd1 isnt stable enough to handle that much. Although there is one person on here who got his ecu re-mapped and is running 400hp.
