MK3 8v Gti-Mind of its own...

Recommended Posts

Hi peeps, totally different question non related to a VR6, My other GTI MK3 has a mind of its own, lol. There is a problem with the vehicle, but we just cant work out what it is, What happens is that the car starts perfectly in the morning, you drive the vehicle for say an hour, park up for ten minutes, then come back to the car to re-start and it just wont start, it just spins, and not crank fully over, If you leave it for half hour and turn it over it will start!!! Had the rac out, they assumed it was the coil due to it spanking out High resistance and that no power was going to dizzy from coil, but power was goin to Coil, So i done full service-Plugs oil dizzy Nu coil etc, drove the car for a bit and the same F+++ing thing happened again...Leave the car for half hour and it bloody starts!!!GRRRRRRRR!!!! Changed the crank sensor, still aint made no difference whatsoeva(problem still there)... Posted the same kinda mail weeks ago on edt38-Everyone said coil...BUT IT'S NOT THAT!!! Anyone got any ideas?? Plugged in the diagnostics yesterday, The diagnoistics machine thinks that the ecu is not connected!!! What do i do? Any one know? Dnt think its the ECU...Swapped relays over with VR coz its identical... Could it be dodgy Fusebox???

right im not sure excactly what you mean does it spin over really fast like there is no compression if so its more than likely your oil pump basically they wear inside so when oil is hot and thinner it doesnt pump up eneough oil to fill hydraulic lifters hence valves dont work properly and you get no compression ive had this on a few mk3 8v and 16v if this is not what its doing try explaining a little more excactly what the starting is like .Carl.

Carl, thanks for getting back to me,apparently its an electrical problem sum where, not mechanical, when you go to re-start the car, all the dash lights come up, and the car just spins on start up, doesnt crank fully+intially when you turn the key, you do not hear the fuel pump go onn??? In the mornin like i said no problems, but then say youve parked up for 10min, go back to the car to start, it wnt start...

check the fuel pump relay.

quite a few mk3's and mk4's suffer from problems with those..

will be in the bottom right location in the fuse box with part number 191 906 383C on the side of it.

my sisters car was very similar to that but that just stalled driving along then wouldn't restart. a new relay fixed that for her :-d and was quite cheap...ish....

M8y, swapped relay from my vr6, they are both the same, its still not starting, no power from coil, but power to coil... Now thinkin perhaps it the ecu...I hope it doesnt end up being that...
