gavinvr6 0
right soon i'll have everything to vr my mk2, trouble is everyone and their granny has done a mk2vr6 and as much as ive always loved them and wanted one i wanted it to be different so wondered if its poss to rear engine rear wheel drive my mk2, what sort of headaches can i expect and does anyone know of one thats been done with an owner that can give me some advice, attacking the rear with a grinder doesnt faze me as mk2's are 2 a penny now. the car will be purely for the strip so creature comforts/abs/powersteering blah blah blah dont matter. kcw 1
I think when Dubsport do rear engined conversions they try and mount up a complete front subframe a doner vehicle, I know this was the case with thier 1.8t mk3 polo, it was mounted on a modified mk3 golf subframe.Dunno where you'd go after that, I've seen a few using an almost spaceframe engine craddle/subframe set-up before. Phat VR6 3
it is a case chopping out the floor pan and then mounting the subframes / front end in the backFrom what ive read you need to then reinforce the shell as you've lost lots of strength so a full roll cage/ space frame fully welded to the shell would sort itRear calipers need mountings so youve got a handbrake, And track rods would need fixingYoud need to find out front struts will fit up the rear turrets so there might be more chop and welding to do thereAlso spring tension and all that shiz would need to be considered to get it to handle right Dude what uni you taking your engineering course? I'm starting automotive engineering at Coventry in September, Should be good i hope
