Guys, I know the brakes on the VR are not too clever as standard but how bad are they supposed to be?

Just had new discs and pads all round: EBCs on the front and run them in about 300 miles. Pedal is spongy as hell and really doesnt inspire confidence.

Brake fluid was changed 6 months ago according to the service book I had with the car.

Its a 1997 VR and only done 54k.

I've been contemplating a budget 4 pot upgrade for the last 2 weeks. Anything has got to be better thatn what i've got now.

Any suggestions on what could be the prob? or is that just the way it is?

I changed the front disks / pads about two months ago and what i noticed was that they took ages to bed in, they did get sharper in time but it took some aggressive braking to get them there, so i would say persevere (unless there is anything mechanically wrong) after fitting the new brakes they scared the hell out of me cos they were terrible, now they are really good..................... :-p

Did you clean the new discs with brake cleaner before fitting?people often forget to clean off the proctetive coating befor fitment .

A 4 pot caliper will be a better option then the standard or the tt brake upgrade, less weight and higher braking force.
