amazak 3
I drove my vr on the motorway for the first time since ownership, I noticed the oil pressure goes up to 106 when driving at speeds around 80-100 MPH, is this normal?I need a dummies guide to the VR, *-)
Lizard Racing 0
If you are reading that from the MAF display that is oil temperature and 106 is fairly common I believe so nothing to worry about.
amazak 3
Yes it is from the MAF, thanks for the info....
Lizard Racing 0
Is that after you accelerated hard because if its not and whilst cruising then I do think that is a little high. Was it a hot or cold day?
amazak 3
Yeah was cruising at around 60 miles, then accerlerated hard, the outside temp was around 17 degrees. When I slowed down it dropped to below 100..... on my daily 5 miles run to the office it sits around 65?
Lizard Racing 0
65? You sure, that is too low and will labour the engine should be running around 90ish
amazak 3
Well I will have a better look tommorrow, to be precise I drive it 3.5 miles every morning and then back in the afternoon again. So it does not have a good chance to warm up properly, but going to do an oil change next weekend, will that make a difference?
Lizard Racing 0
Yeah more than likely, put some Castrol Magnatec 10W40 part in there or dealer Syntha silver
amazak 3
Will do, thanks.
Buzzark 0
I'm pretty sure 106 is perfectly normal if you're up around that speed.I think the Quantum Silver oil (semi synthetic) is specced upto a constant temp of 115c before it suffers premature degradation. daleyboyVR6 6
i run fully synthetic as i manage to get the temp at about 118-122 max.....................i thought semi synth would degrade at about 120 ....................... :-p
Lizard Racing 0
At 128 I lost a big end so be careful! What fully synthetic are you running out of interest? 5W40 or 15W50?
Buzzark 0
i thought semi synth would degrade at about 120 ....................... :-p Yeah, could be 120 I thought is was about 115 but it's around there that it sharply drops off from what I remember.106 should be fine on a semi synthetic of the correct spec anyway.
