kalv 0
Just recently got this problem... whilst driving.. after about 10-15 mins.. engine just dies. You try starting it up and it turns over but just doesn't fire. Leave it about 10 minutes try starting it and it starts.Typical, as soon as the AA man got to me the car started. He checked the spark and they seemed ok.. sprayed the cam sensor/crank sensor (don't know which one it is - front of engine underneath thermostat housing??) with WD-40 and of I went.. but died on me again after about 30min.My old man thinks it could be the camshaft sensor being faulty when the car warms up... something to do with the magnetic field?? Is this easy to change or a garage job?Cars an OBD2 with 110K on the clock.
kalv 0
I've been doing some reading and searching.. and it seems to be pointing towards a fuel pump relay... is this a 2minute change i could do?

kalv 0
Is the fuse for the fuel pump relay in the same place as other fuses.. drivers footwell?
lee060 3
sounds like a relay .possibly main or pump , give em both a shot for the sake of 11 quid eachLiam
kalv 0
Which is the main relay...? I've found the fuel pump one and can pick one up from eurocarparts..
Samson 0
In moy opinion, it is the camshaft sensor, i had this problem, after it was hot the car refused to start until it was cooled down again (about 10mins) started on the nose when cold though. I would definately check that, just bought 1 for myself from VW £
kalv 0
I'm turning towards that myself..?I replaced the fuse pump relay and same thing this morning on way to work..died after about 15min.. left it for 20min then started again? Can you change the camshaft sensor yourself..? kalv 0
Right guys.. finally got the camshaft sensor from VW.. followed the guide and replaced it[lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1191612708_4477_FT196949_051020071153.jpg][/lightbox]Reset any faults using my little tool.. left it ignition for 15mins.. started it.. seemed ok.. went round the block.. idle seemed a bit irratic but would then be ok... drove for 10mins.. it cut out but managed to start straight away.. then it died on my properly.. turned over but wouldn't fire. Left it parked up.. came home had my dinner, went back to it and it started... so floored it home and parked up.So still got the problem? Do I really need VAG.COM to calibrate it/reset it properly? I did replace the Fuel Pump Relay aswell.. but that didn't change anything?Actual fuel pump...?
Jk* 0
Get it on VAGCOM. Also, have a look at your MAF. See if the little sensor inside is split. If so that could also be your problem. I had it with mine, the AA changed all my relays and they couldnt work it out. Then i had it stuck on VAGCOM and it sourced the problem straight away. If it is the MAF soon you wont be able to move the car @ all. Theres a MAF for sale on the forum for £40 if thats any help. Otherwise GSF do them for about £95 and exchange. Good luck with it. kalv 0
I'll take a look at the MAF. IF it's ok, can you clean it??I'll have to take it to my local VW specialist.. i've only got a little fault code reader... guna be a pain to get the car there!
kalv 0
Had a look at the MAF.. it isn't split..[lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1191833273_4477_FT196949_061020071155.jpg][/lightbox]Gave it a clean with some carb cleaner... banged it back in.. went for a quick spin round the block... idled alot better.. but i didn't get a chance to get the car up to temperature.. Still not getting any engine fault codes from my small code reader...
