ThermalP4 1
Hi Guys. What are the symptoms of a dodgy steering rack?Reason I ask is that i've booked the VR in to be inspected on weekend but just thought i'd try and find out myself whats wrong.Basically the car steers fine but there is a creaking/rubbing type sound coming from the steering. cant quite figure out if its behind the wheel or down by the pedals.Guy in VW while i was booking it in said it could be the Slip Ring?Any comments on this?Cheers guys. shail 0
When my steering rack was gone I had the following symptoms: Heavy steering turning left, and normal turning right along with a grinding noise on full lock
Jimjon 28
yes the steering being harder to turn one way is an obvious sign of the rack.

Guest
I currently have an assumed rack problem, hit the curve at like 30 mph and bent anti roll bar, so had it changed with drop links and tyre changed and top mount, which reduced the juddering a little.didnt make a difference so I guess its the rack on mine, as I am getting uneven weight on steering and a slight judder when moving lanes, a bit of torgue steer too.and yes I have had my alignment and tracking done too and cambers aswell.Does this sound correct?
