Golf 4 motion

I have just purchased a 2001 golf 4 motion. Ive just taken it for a spirited spin and noticed that the rev limiter seems to intrude at an indicated 6200 rpm? - I would be surprised if this is normal considering peak power is achieved at these revs?

Whilst its not my intention to drive round at max revs all day, it would be nice to know whether this is normal or not and if it is not, as I suspect the case to be, what would be causing this?

Im thinking MAF , ECU ??

I have just disconnected the battery for 30 mins as I had no idea what petrol the previous owner run it on which I hoped might clear this but unless it takes a number of runs to do so, didnt make any difference.

Also what petrol do you find suits the 4 motion the best, optimax, BP or Tesco 99.

should go at least 1st bit into the red b4 it kicks in mine feels lyk it wants to go a lot more than that though

i never seem to notice the diffrence between fuels but i use all super etc be it bp optimax or esso etc

my 4motion runs on normal petrol its not really much different using super

If you want the best for your car use Shell V fuel!

Mine was running on optimax. I had it rolling road tested and it was putting out 209.5 bhp, no modifications.

isnt vpower and optimax the same thing

optimax was renamed to vpower. same thing...

I could only ever run my VR on BP ultima though, ran like a bag of spanners on vpower and normal unleaded... I once had the mis-fortune to fill up at tesco, ive never been since, car ran even worse than the aforementioned fuel.
