spanky 0
Today on the way to work I had to do some rapid overtaking, as soon as I pulled back in I got the water temp light flashing so pulled over to have a look. The water was down to nearly the bottom of the header tank, with water sprayed all over the top of the oil filter and surrounding area, but I could see steam that seemed to be rising from the aux belt side of the engine. I filled up with water and steadily drove it to my dads (so I could borrow his mk2), but when I got there all the leaked water had dried up and there was no more steam!Anyone know if any pipes are prone to giving up in this area, or could it be the water pump etc? jakw100 0
Could be the thermostat housing, this is quite a common failure on VR6's mine went a month back but didnt piss out like you say it just started dripping and steadily got worse. Here is an article about the thermostat housing which may help. kalv 0
I've had the water-rail and oil cooler pipe replaced on mine as they had perished over time and were leaking like mad.Alsom my thermostat housing still leaks ever so slightly...just top it up every few weeks.. spanky 0
Kalv, When you say water rail do you mean the plastic pipe running across the engine that has the oil cooler pipe attached? If so I think that may be what it is after talking to my dad, who has been looking at it whilst I'm at work. spanky 0
Cheers, It looks like it's the oil cooler pipe, so I've got one on order from VW. The plastic rail looks in good order, and the water doesn't appear to be coming from there.I'll have to be careful taking the oil cooler pipe off, so I don't snap off the plastic lug.Hopefully have it sorted tomorrow or Sunday. spanky 0
Thanks for the help Kalv, it was the oil cooler water hose that had split in a couple of places. I replaced it last night and all seems well, touch wood!
