GTI clocks with a vr6 engine

Recommended Posts

wondering if someone can help me... Ive got gti clocks on my new golf which was origanally a 2.0l 8v but now has a odb2 vr6 in.

Firstly the revs will go striaght of the clock [7000 on gti] and then actual revs appear to go on to about 8500? it doesnt seem to have an actual limiter...do you think has the limiter been removed? are the needles on the vr6 clocks at a different tension, what should i limit my revs too??[best for engine life]

any thoughts would be great

the rev counter is wrong because it is now getting 6 impulses per engine revolution (cos it's now a 6 cylinder), and it expects 4 (cos it was a 4 cylinder). so it is probably 50% fast.

it is only a display unit so your engine is not actually going that fast , it just displays it wrong.

(6k showing is gonna be 4k actual revs)

as said get some vr clocks (95 onwards) and all will be right again..

it should still have a rev limiter as i believe it is built into the ecu programming so you SHOULD be ok, just try not to rag it too much (if that's possible with the vr roar!! :-p )
