1990 1
Any point in doing this? I've tried a cone filter but prefer to use a standard corrado vr airbox, will drilling it give me a benefit?
binliner 0
noise benefit yes ... performance? doubt it
1990 1
I geuss noise is good, even with no performance
binliner 0
Yeah... I did mine on my gti, tried it with about 5 14mm holes then about 10 more! sounded pretty good... more holes = more noise!why didnt you like the cone filter?
six appeal 53
If your worried about hot air getting into the cone filter build a heat shield, or alternatively use a drilled airbox. When you drill the airbox make sure its only on the side opposite the engine, so that you are not drawing in all the hot air!
acf8181 0
lets face it, whatever you do to your airbox (be it drilling it, or gettin a cone filter) is for noise...even a bmc only gives a negligable performance increase.go ahead and drill it...just drill at the wing side (away from engine) and only on the bottom section (so you're not bypassing the filter)
tommy 0
Ive drilled the air box on my mk1....gives great induction noise....they did a rr test in one of the vw mags, and a drilled air box on a k jetronic engine did give an increase in bhp/lbft...can?t remember how much though, in was a few years ago!I personally would fabricate a enclosing round the cone filter like six appeal said over drilling the air box as i recon you might get a better power gain on a vr but that?s just me
1990 1
Yeah... I did mine on my gti' date=' tried it with about 5 14mm holes then about 10 more! sounded pretty good... more holes = more noise!why didnt you like the cone filter?[/quote']Its was when the car wasnt running right, a r/r operator told me to ditch it because it wasnt letting enough flow through. When i got the corrado air box the car ran a lot better
1990 1
Well i finally did it now and i think its great!!!!The car sounds alot better and goes better aswell, I destroyed a 1.2 corsa at the lights last night (sorry i couldnt find a proper car to blast) I can wait to meet a decent car at the traffic light grand prix!!!!! (this may be a psycholocical power increase though because i've been using the mk3 vr all week and the mk2 is faster)
