out of interest , why a VW specialist?? is it to do with whats on the stamp in the service book? theres nout wrong with normal garages or backstreet ones ;) , just finding one you can trust prior to that theres a VW specialist near where i work . well over night they turned vw specialist lol from renault :S i rang them up out of interest to test there speciality on doing a set of chains on a vr , put it this way they were about as useful as a choc firegaurd guy on the phone kept refering the the timing belts and had no idea on any specifics on the job like the simple fact that there on the gearbox side of the engine :S :)

Im looking to get my VR6 Highline serviced' date=' but unsure where to go... I will be contacting a VW Main Dealer for a price tomorrow but I just wondered if anyone knew of a Specialist in the Peterborough area?

Try Jabbasport [golf mk4 turbo specialists in Crowland but seem to know their stuff], alternatively there is VW2000 [vw breakers and also do servicing and repairs] in Peakirk near Glinton.

Main problem i seem to find is that apart from Cooks [VW stealers] none of the local garages have alot of experience with the VR6 engine but if its a simple service this obviously shouldn't be a problem. ;)

A local garage may be ok for minor servicing but for big work definitely get the work done at either Stealth Racing or The Phirm - believe me you will save a lot of trouble and hassle in the long run.. I wouldn't take it anywhere else. Both are the same price as a local garage but ten times more experienced than my local vw main dealer! I travel a bit over an hour to get my car done at the phirm... but well worth it. I have heard of quite a few people on here who have had work done at a garage (for a good quote) and had no end of problems afterwards resulting in more cost afterward to try and rectify the problems.

Cheers for the help guys... FlyingAnt have you used VW 2000 before? or Jabba?

Ive fallen in love and I dont want any old garage having my VR.

Used Jabba this week but not for servicing- mechanic seemed to know his stuff and they are all very into their vdubs generally, though i did ask for a quote on some engine work after which i was told i would be phoned back with... four days later still no call back.

Ref VW 2000 never used them myself, heard both good and bad things about them locally so difficult to say.

When i got my VR i took it to Cooks VW for its first new to me service simply for the reassurance factor and the stamp in the book- it not cheap though.

Not gonna disagree with matth76's comments at all as these two come highly recommended as the nuts for VR6's by the vast majority.

Are you Mr S Racing or Mr T Phirm by the way mathh? :-p

I phoned Jabba for a quote on a Service' date=' they want £250! (Unsure what that comprises of)

VW 2000 want £150! (Oil, All filters, Brake check and adjust etc)

And Crowson VW in Spalding want £180 (Just for Oil and Filter Change)

Well personally i'd cross Jabba [how much!] and Crowson Vw [taking the pee] off the list, how much did Vw Cooks quote as it does depend on what service is due.

Oil and oil filter isn't any more than £30 - £35 from Cooks in parts so i did this myself last time [really not difficult and plenty of guides online], also at the last local vr6oc meet craggsy kindly checked my car and others on vag com which reassured me, next meet is soon and in the Boro so if your handy with a spanner this could be an option.

The only other place i would take my VR locally is Not Escorts but they are in St Neots [20 - 25 mins down the A1] they seem reasonable but are busy busy busy working on a mk2 vr6 conversion at the mo.

Sorry dude can't think of any where else locally Vw wise, Stealth may be the way to go but it is a trek.

Stealth, The Phirm and Midland VW are all a trek away... I will contact Cooks tomorrow, if not its going into Crowson.

I could do it myself but VR6's are highly desirable with a Full Service History, and its got one already so im sticking with it.

Does anyone know exactly what grade of oil a 1997 VR6 Highline would use?
