Low oil

The vr was serviced just before i got it 6 weeks ago so the oil should of been at maximum but when i checked it yesterday it was on minimum which surprised me a bit. Any reason for this or do they use alot of oil anyway. Theres no oil leaks and its only on 66k, doesn't smoke or anything and sounds fine :s

what oil ? quantum synta silver?? mine's thirty for oil as well but i hammer it tbh

Im not sure what oil was in it but i put in Castrol GTX Magnatec as it was sunday night and the only place open was Halfords and i needed to go out. I have heard that the Sintra Silver is the stuff to use? Surely the Castrol stuff is pretty good though? Any reason why they use that much oil or is it just due to enthusiastic driving?

i always use gtx magnatec and mine drinks a fair bit of oil, i just check mine every other week.

It nothing unusual though, if you look in the manual it even says in there that it can use a litre per 1000 miles.

synta silver is what vw suggest part number for 5ltrs is zgb 115 qlb 00 406 if memory serves me right

My mate works at a VW main dealers and apparently they are now using GTX magnatec i don't know if thats all the dealers but definately the one in Norwich.

Can't go wrong with Quantum Synta Silver. The local vw dealers round here and both the specialists I have taken my car to recommend this oil.

Whatever oil you put in make sure it is the semi-synthetic 10w 40 (I think this is correct).

I used to use GTX magnatec and found I used up far more of the GTX than the synta silver I now use.

I find mine goes down to half the max level on the dipstick every three weeks roughly. The vr will use up a lot of oil.

Wish i knew they used so much i would of checked it sooner! Hope i havn't damaged it! The GTX Magnatec i got was 10w 40 but think its fully synthetic..is this ok??

i use vauxhall 10/40 semi coz i get it cheap thro my work! if i buy 3 5lt's for 20 odd quid i get another 1 free.. bargain

i use mobil 1 10w/40 semi get it free from work lovely oil as lovely as oil gets and ye mine use`s a lot of oil as well.

That is the oil i use mate and its spot on, its semi synthetic not fully. Its the only oil i'll use in my VR.

it depends who owns the dealership and who they have a grp deal with,my dealership is owned by european motor holdings and they decide we use shell,but ur audi branch use castrol,so it changes from retailer to retailer

but synta silver 10 w 40 is what vw suggest
