Andy Mac 1
I was driving my VR on Saturday on the motorway and I noticed a 'blowing' noise when accelerating, also the engine sounded deeper. I got her home anf had a look underneath with the engine running and it sounds like there is a leak in the exhaust right under the front seats, What section would this be. The car is a completely standard '96 ODB2 model with just short of 72K miles on the clock. Also would this be wear and tear, or was it my driving thats caused this.
c4mbl 1
Ud have to have a closer look matey, it could the mid section, or front pipe. Or even the cat as they are all around that position.chances are its been wearing for a while.
spanky 0
Sound like the cat to me. They are around this area. They are prone to blowing from the back end of them, as there is a mounting point for a sensor that's not on the VR6 (NOT the lambda sensor at the front on the top, a different sensor)), that is meant to be plugged up, but this often comes out allowing gases to escape. All I did was put an undersized SHORT screw (must be short or you may damage the cat) into the hole with plenty of exhaust paste. This did the job on mine, and it has been right for well over a year!Hope this helps mate!
purple highline monster 0
if it is this extra hole blowing on the cat mine did it too, just put a blob of weld in it!! it serves no purpose, other than that it could be your join to the cat? or your first box which is more likely, just take it to quick s*hit they will put it on a ramp check it, tell you where its blowing, quote you a ridiculous price for a pattern part!at this point you leave, then you go to vw get a genuine one for the same price and have a decent garage fit it for you its probably worth getting a complete system
