Smuggler 0
Just recently bought a VR6, and today changed a tyre as it was showing cords on the inner edge, thats bad enough is it is. But i've just gone and looked, every wheel only has 4 bolts in instead of 5, so looks like the bloke who sold it to me has taken locking wheel bolt set out without telling me, and i've been driving it like that for a short while now. What sort of problems could this cause, apart from being a bit dangerous obviously.
binliner 0
the tyre sounds more dangerous!
shail 0
By having only four bolts you would have put more stress on the bolts and bolt holes. On a steel wheel this would result in elongated bolt holes in the rim, but on an alloy I'm not sure that would happen. Best bet is to take it to a tyre place or wheel refurbers and get them to have a look at the rim and bolts. To be honest the person who sold it to you is out of order. Personally I could never intentionally sell a dangerous car to save £20 on a set of locking nuts.
spindat45 0
I don't think it will have done any damage. As long as the four bolts on each wheeel were tightened properly then it is very unlikely that you will have done any lasting damage. Like "Binliner" said the tyre was a lot more dangerous but I think you were more likely to have had your wheels stolen as a result of 1 missing wheel bolt as opposed to a wheel falling off.Kevin

I'd love to see that. It'll be fine, its well known that you can loose a wheel bolt if you need to.No need to have the wheels or bolts checked.Too much scaremongering on this forum. purple highline monster 0
agreed it wont make any difference as long as they are tight, what you should do is ring the c*ck up and say you have caused an accident due to a wheel falling off coz some bolts were missing! and that youve given the police his details to come and see him! see if he likes that, the cheapskate loser!
