It's been a while! Hope you're all well.

You might be surprised to know that I do actually still have the VR, but not for long. My enthusiasm's been waning for a long, long time and I've pretty much run out now so it's time to pass it onto someone who'll give it the attention it needs.

Anyway, for those of you who know me I just wanted to say thanks for the memories - I'll look back on my VW years fondly. I'll probably put a list of parts in the 'for sale' section sometime!

See you when you overtake me

Nick

Hi Nick,

Yeah I remember you. I joined at the same time as you back in the early days - Dec'03.

Didn't you have a silver 5 door Golf like Antera309's?

Funnily, I've had my Highline 4.5 years now and its going to the new owner this week. But I will be getting another Veedub to along with the Freelander that I also have.

So yeah, hi and goodbye!

Jon

Hi Nick, Hi Matt

Blimey, I came on to say bye and now I'm starting all over again!

I'm never on MSN these days - can't do it from work any more and my working day rarely leaves me time to do much chat in the evening.

Apart from the car thing all is well - Mrs Brotherston and I were married in June, which was great. I'm now working back in the City, but it's much better than it was before.

As for the VR, my enthusiasm has worn off to the point where I just can't be bothered to keep fixing the little problems as they arise, so it just sits there whilst I drive some crappy cheap-to-run Escort. I decided it was time to get rid of them both and just have one all-purpose car. I considered everything from being stingy and just buying a diesel 206 (was never going to happen) to splashing out and buying an S2000 or a Z4 (nearly did, but I'd have had to make too many sacrifices). None of you will approve, but in the end I bought a 52 reg Focus ST170. It looks good (discreet but sporty), it's well-equipped and it's lovely to drive. OK, so you'd never describe it as fast but my racing days are long gone. More to the point it comes with a three-year warranty so I don't have to worry about all that stuff!

Long time no hear Nick. Everytime I see you on a forum all i can think of is BVF a few years ago and a very messy drunken night with you appearing from the back of your car the next morn slightly worse for wear lol :)

All the best for the future hope your VR goes to a good home

Yeah I had a silver 5 door on Antera 309s' date=' although I'm not sure that Antera 309's 5 door was silver. :S

Look at that, members 117 and 125 - it's come on a long way since then!

I could have sworn Antera309's (other Nick) original Golf was silver, as I rememeber you 2 commenting about having the same colur, same alloys and same name.

Mine was gunmetal grey, but it was otherwise pretty much identical to Nick B's, including the Antera 309 alloys

We also both had Schrick Manifolds fitted at the same time, after the infamous 35+ Schrick Group Buy that Nick actually started!

(ahh, the good old days....)

I actually sold that car to my Brother in the end, who kept it until the chains needed doing.... ;-) Saw it driving around in Wycombe last month, so still going strong!

So you weren't tempted by a mk4 GTi then, Nick?

No; I thought about it, but they've never particularly excited me. I would have liked an R32, but I think they're still too expensive for what they are.

Mk5 GTI would be a different story but I didn't want to pay for the depreciation on a new car.

That Schrick thread would still be the longest ever on this forum, had it not been for the one-word story game. :@
