So am I right in thinking you can just buy the TT 312mm brake discs and they fit under standard VR6 calipers? I have the later 288mm discs at the mo and wouldn't mind some better brakes!

Yep, but you also need 312 carriers and 6mm worth of washers to move them inboard.

The 312s are OK, but you'll be wanting some proper brakes if you ever go forced induction, such as TAROX, Brembos or AP Racing.

hi, ok i did think TT brakes but after reading these comments thinking of something better. would the TT brakes make much difference over the standard brakes, bear in mind its supercharged with Shrick cams and was told when i bought it it was running 280bhp.

I have a set of 312mm Pagid Black Diamond disks with Audi TT calipers, carriers and a pair of custom-made anodised steel spacers (better than washers!) - everything required to bolt them straight onto a VR.

The improvement in stopping power with these is phenomenal. You must have 16" or 17" wheels to run them though.

Lots of people with superchargers use the TT 312mm setup. On anything up to 300BHP they are plenty enough.

£180 plus your old calipers, carriers & discs, AddsVR6, and they're yours!

PM me if you want 'em!

Am going forced soon, so am just getting the rest of it set up!

Defo go for some better brakes at a later stage, but as antera said, thease should cope for now, so maybe with next years budget ; )

The difference from 280 to 312 is massive. The difference between 288 and 312 is not so great imo - same caliper, same pad, just slightly more leverage in the bigger disc to reduce effort.

I managed to warp 3 sets of 312 discs as I drive my car hard, but not in inappropriate areas I hasten to add, and they just can't handle repeated 100+ stops....they fade to buggery, although DOT5.1 fluid can help a little there as it has 50+ degrees more boil resistance.

I like to press the pedal hard but want good modulation at the same time, so in the end I opted for AP Racing 4 pots and they're just the absolute mutts. Partnered with Pagid RS15 race pads (nope, they are NOT unsuitable for road use), you'll get very strong - and more importantly, repeatable braking performance. AP simply don't know what fade is.

Let's also not forget that the AP 4 pot kit is half the weight of the 312 setup, so you also get improvements in handling due to the braking system's portion of the unsprung weight being slashed in half.

The only snag with 4 pot kits is severely reduced wheel options due to spoke clearance.....but I prefer to stop than look pretty on shiney 17s, so some ugly old Oettingers or Team Dynamics ProRace do me.
