Help need to get me started. 2.8 24v

Recommended Posts

I think its time to clear the air. There are a lot of misinformation flying around. Its really frustrating..

First of all the  3.2 crank is in the 2.8 block.

The crank is not touching anywhere and turns freely without any modification

Second the Woosner R32 84mm pistons fits fine. The piston pin is where it should . So the R32 block is NOT taller. Its the same block with different bore and bolt diameter.

In the next couple of days I will post pictures of the R32 heads to the 2.8 block.

I think some of the misinformation comes from people talking about the 12v vr6 engine not bing compatible with some of the r32 stuff. I have definitely seen somewhere, someone had the pistons protruding up out if the bores.

Was that one of Adaptorman's threads, he did a number of these and pretty sure he found that problem but that might have been the 2.8 stock pistons for a 3 litre build?

2.8 pistons have shorter compression height so they are 6mm under the block top at TDC. To fix that you need custom rods which are taller.

If I understand things correctly you need 2.8 Crank ,r32 pistons and 6mm or so taller rods to make R30.They idea is to make the engine as square as possible .

I was told an r30 had tuscan rods soo if they are not custom they may be from another model.

Any recommendation on the chain tenstioner issue? I am preparing the head to rev to 8500rpm
