  1. Hi guys, Im in the process of selling my Golf (begrudgingly) but it has developed a misfire under load.I have replaced the plugs, coil pack, leads and MAF sensor and it ran fine. However since I replaced these the car has been off the road for a few months so it hasn't been driven until a buyer test drove it yesterday. The eml light came on also. One problem I thought was that the fuel in the tank has been in there for the past 6 months, could this cause a problem? It's not using water so have rule out a head gasket issue.Any ideas?
  2. Hi Guys, It is with sad regret that I have to part with my 4motion aka "Klaus". Its an X reg 5dr in silver with the earlier AUE 24V engine. 116k. Standard spec apart from Cat back mild steel exhaust is its only modification. I bought it nearly 2 years ago off a mechanic friend who looked after it well. Christmas Eve 2016 it developed a miss-fire and I had to travel a lot over that period so bought another cheap runaround in the meantime (a 2000 1,8 Vectra ).Work and family commitments meant the Golf got overlooked.I got round to fixing the miss-fire (p
  3. Thanks Pete, I did the sniff test and it just smelt like stale water and anti freeze so need to look elsewhere. If there's a leak I'm sure it's at the front of the engine as I found a oil/water mixture on the crankcase.Fingers crossed it will be inexpensive to fix ?.
  4. Hi guys. I have a 2000 V6 4motion (AUE).it's been off the road for the last 3 months as it had developed a miss fire.I replaced the expensive coil pack, leads and plugs and all was well, however 2 weeks later I ran her again. The coolant warning came on.I noticed the expansion bottle was empty and the oil cap had a slight white gunge on.I filled the bottle back up to level and cleaned the oil cap and ran the car again. This time the bottle remained level but the oil cap still was a bit white.I smelt the water in the bottle and it didn't smell or look contaminated. The oil on the dipstick is no
  5. Nice, whats the VW scene like down there? Is New Zealand dominated by alot of Jap machines,Holdens,Fords??
  6. Thanks for such a descriptive reply, That has set my mind at ease . I have had my 4motion for 6 months now and am learning new things everyday about it which is good as its quite complex for a hot hatch. I didn't realise it was a VVT till now either. I had a couple of fast cars before I had kids, my last car however was an astra 1.4 ,it was a good drop in performance from my 200sx that's for sure but to jump into the Golf after that made me feel happy once more and there's still room for the kids :D.I work at a motor factors in Mid-wales so it will get regular oil changes and any parts it
  7. Hi peeps, Whats the deal with timing chain renewal as some people are saying it will never need changing and others tell me every 100k.Mines done 116k and hasn't been changed and runs quiet as a mute mouse and on start up there is no metal like noises. What are your thoughts on the matter?

  9. cheers bud,am slighty worried that its never been changed although its in great condition for an X reg but I will be getting it done asap for piece of mind.
  10. Hi peeps, Does anybody know how often the haldex oil and filter should be changed and also does anyone know a cheap place to get the kit from as £58 seems a bit steep? Would like to use genuine vw though so might have to bite the bullet on this one.
  11. and everything works aswell electrical and mechanical .It also helps that I work at a motor factors otherwise I may not have purchased it,im too sensible perhaps. The 204bhp seems adequate but they seem to take to turbocharging so well. What kind of budget would I need? im also very sceptical of ebay kits aswell .Might just stick to suspension and breathing mods for now methinks.
  12. Hello there I am a lurker I guess, recently purchased a V6 4motion to replace my 1.4 astra!! needless to say its so nice to be back in something with power. I wish I'd bought one ages ago however I got mine for silly money through a friend so was worth the wait. Its an x plater but it great condition, only 116k on it too. Want to keep it stock for now and get it up to high standard before modifying. I'm 32 now with kids so my boy racing fast and furious days are long gone and want to keep it a sensible sleeper although seeing the turbo thread on here has got my mind thinking....which is d
