  1. Looking for a exhaust for my vr6 conversion, I have a mk2 vr6 conversion and looking to see if anyone is selling a exhaust that wits the vr and mounts up to the hangers of the mk2 shell

  2. 10 minutes ago, rich said:

hi,could be the seal/piston in slave faulty or sticky,,give it a good bleed with fresh fluid and if still the same replace I guess is only real sure way...nothing fouling the clutch pedal is there!!!

Thanks for the advice, clutch pedal is clear of anything, did take the cover off the piston and got it in 5th and looked at it and there is rust all round it, gave it a bit of a clean and put back together and tested but still the same sticking to the floor, if it's a nice day tomorrow going to try a full blead like you say, have a clutch slave on order now just hope it works one way or another as I really want it on the road

  3. Hi guys and gals have a problem with my clutch, don't know if it's the clutch slave if it needs pressure bled or the pressure plate.

my car is a mk2 vr conversion when the car is sat with engine off or on the clutch pedal sticks to the floor and locks the gear stick in position I.e. 1st gear have to turn the car off pull the pedals up with my toes and then back in nutal then engine back on, anyone have any ideas have bled it a few times still the same and now I'm looking at replacing the clutch slave as someone said it could be that but don't want to pay out for that if it isn't that and is the same with the new part

  5. Hi guys and gals I recently done this and thought I'd pass it on as there is a lot of conflicting information out there ( sorry for the length but want it to be in depth )

i bought a mk2 shell from a friend then it was built and converted from a 1.3 to obviously a vr6 the 2.8, I insured the car as a 2.8 and after reading all over the net that I could tax the car as a 1.3 and drive it as long as it was insured as a 2.8 I thought great, but after the time and money invested in the car I decided to do research into this, and was proved not the case.

i done further reading and read that I could take the v5 to the post office and they can change it on the system, yes they can change it from the 1.3 to disabled tax but as it passes through into a new tax band only dvla can do it.

i updated the v5c had to get a v70 form ( YOU HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THIS AND PRINT IT OFF ) then fill it out, I didn't fill in the milage as its not required by law on this form and I didn't fill in the old revenue weight or the new revenue weight as I didn't know, you also have to include the mot certificate and I got a engineers report not from AA or RAC but a local place that does them and you also have to include a cheque for the outstanding amount of that that would be due this is the more complicated bit.

the tax you paid i.e. My one the 1.3 so it's the new tax price minus the old tax then you decide that by 12 to get your monthly price then you have to times that by how long is left on you current tax i.e. 3 month

they also say about getting a receipt from the garage that done the conversion but in my case it was a drive way conversion so I didn't include a receipt, you then send this all off to the dvla ( I recommend recorded mail ) and I was on the phone often to check on the progress you can also go on google and search car tax check and put your reg and make of car in and in my case at the cc section it said 12something cc so that made it 1.3l and if you keep checking you will see the change once it's been done to 27something cc

like I say sorry for the length but I hope it helped.

  6. As far as I know you can't change the tax band of a car, as long as the cars registered and insured correctly don't worry about it, I've had it before when trying to change vans to cars, when for example I put an interior and windows into a fiesta van they couldn't change it.

Thanks for your help, I was told by dvla that they need proof of purchase of the engine and the engine code and vin of the car, and a inspection report, but on direct gov it states that I only have to provide written proof if I have decreased the engine size or fuel type and well the vr I obviously more power and I havnt changed the fuel type, so long story short some places and people say one thing then other places and people say something different

  7. My honest opinion is what a cracking deal so if it's taxed as a 1.3 and your v5 says 1.3 then you can insure it as a 1.3 but that's old school tricks I wouldn't recommend it but I can not influence your decision whatever your choice. I know a guy that ran a Scooby STI as a 2.0 WRX the fact is it looks good on ANPR but is you have a bang your in the cow pie!!!

Lol, it insured as a 2.8 through Adrian flux, I'm wanting to try and get it done as where I am there is a lot of modified cars and the police like to stop people do their normal checks and then look under the bonnet, they done that to me in the other golf I had a 1.3 carburettor and was called a winter check yet the went for the engine bay.

So in theory I go past a or get pulled by a police car and its still 1.3 on the v5 and they go under the bonnet in screwed no hiding the vr

  8. Recently got my mk2 golf with the vr6 in it, tried to change the tax at the post office but couldn't, so had to tax it as a 1.3 ( what it used to be before I got it ) I'm looking to get the correct tax on it dvla has stated that they require a engineers report for the car, is there anything else I need to do, want the car fully legal?

  9. alot of people do this , i converted a mk3 golf 16v gti to a vr6 no problems.

The gti has a cable clutch so just remove this and place a rubber grommet in the hole in the bulkhead. A hydraulic clutch is easily fitted as on the gti bulkhead you will find a blanking plate held on by two nuts. remove this and fit you clutch master cylinder.

will need vr6 driveshafts but not hubs as gti is 5 stud aswell.

any questions just ask its not too bad at all,  all together i would say its easiest and cheapest to get a donor vr6 and a decent gti.

I have just had a mk2 built up from a shell with a vr6 put in great to drive but pain in the ass to try and get the correct road tax

  10. Hi all dont know if this is allowed or not but I have a spare rear carpet for a mk2 golf I'm looking to sell, open to offers, if pictures are wanted can get them up tomorrow

  11. It's a good thing it's coming from there , 2L of gear box oil & a gasket will cost no more than £30 + an hour on the spanners.

Could have been much worse :o

Well the car was bought as a shell then some friends and me worked on it, its not too bad considering its the first real time the engine and gearbox has run in a year

This is a gear box sump gasket ^ do you mean you can see a bit of gasket making it look like a gap ?

You need to check it's definatley from the gear box and not oil running onto it from else where then dripping onto the gear box.

Gear box oil will smell a lot stronger than engine oil.

Give it a good clean off and degrease to locate the sounce of the leak.

    Good luck.

To me it looks like there is a gap where a seal should be right at the edges will try to take a picture, it is sadly coming from there cleaned the aria and the oil is still coming and it smells like gearbox oil it feckin stinks

  13. Yes it will have a gasket around it , you will need to drain it ( make sure the oil is warmed up ) , remove the cover , fit a new gasket , refit the cover, then refill it.

If you google gear box gasket & oil change you should get a step by step guide.

Thanks for the advice, because when I look at it there is a gap from the cover to the edge and I don't know if this is supposed to be like this as this is my first vr

  14. Was out last night in the golf to go to the shops, I wake up this morning and there is a oil leak coming from the gear box picture below, should this have a seal in it and how can I fix it?

I know I cant take the panel off because if I do obviously the oil will come out, thanks in advance for the help.post-95541-0-48361900-1439540331_thumb.j
