Hi well after my wheel bearing probs both are fitted with new hubs and driving well. However i did have some issues with the bearing circlips here in my last thread http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?477521.10 im now getting front abs open circuit faults and think the circlip issue may be causing it. The etka drawings my friend got me printed show 2 circlips (1front 1back) however Vw are saying just one circlip and the garage i use are saying they def take 2 circlips. Does anyone know if there was a change made in this model so the bearing fits with just one clip at th

Hi, my starter switch is on the blink and instead of tearing the column apart to replace it i would quite like to have a go at a starter button. Anyone know if there is any type of elec push button (Not the push on push off type) like a square one that will fit in one of the dash blanks without having to cut nasty holes into the dash,or one that would fit nice anywhere else on dash without cutting? Also can i get to the big red wire and the black/red stripe wire without pulling the column or wheel? cheers

Ive just started doing the bearings today only got one done so far as run into a spot of bother.Hub nut off ok,driveshaft spline out ok,hub and old bearing pulled out ok,then gave the inside a really good clean out. However when pressing the new bearing in with the tool i installed the rear circlip first then drove the bearing home with the press the bearing seems to have gone back to its limit but there isnt enough room to expose the groove for the front circlip, cleaned out the inside and gave it a good hard push but theres no way its gona move more to let the circlip fit in the groove.I did n -

Now that you mention that adam when i was away with the car on a short holiday a while ago i didhave to pop into a local place when there to get a tyre as i ended up with a nail in the left one. so now i have one new tyre and one half worn on the front.Although the handling/steering feedback is perfect still. -

cheers guys, ive got my bearings, hubs and bearing tool kit ready to go,i also went ahead and picked up a driver side driveshaft as when i had a look the rubbers on it were looking a bit sad.Im wanting to know if i will be able to navigate the shaft into both ends without having to undo anything on the hub carrier apart from caliper? as i really dont have a rodend separator and the bolts look like they will be trouble -

yeah i got 2 hubs aswell, since they were cheap enough. I thing thats worrying me is when i go to do them im going to use a special wheel bearing puller/pusher tool to instal them, and when i get to the part where the cup has to rest on the inner race and push the hub in the inner race is in 2 halfs with a small gap between them im thinking the force of pressing in might push these 2 half together close the gap and wreck the bearing.ive never used the special tool before -

Morning all. about a week ago after a 200mile round trip i suddenly started getting a loud droning noise coming from the front it seems like its from the driver side but as im driving somtimes it appers dead centre. Its really low and bassy and sounds just like a deep engine noise.Funny thing is its hardly noticable up to about 45-50ish then when i hit 60 it gets very very loud to the point i struggle to hear the engine, after about 80ish it starts to fade though. Ive checked both wheels and the bearings seem secure enough although i would of expected a more higher pitched whining from a bearing

Hi, So in my ongoing mission to eliminate the wierd noises and harshness coming from the front it now looks like i may need new cv,driveshafts or both.after replacing quite a few diffrent suspension parts a local mechanic now thinks i have an issue with the driveshafts especially the passenger side.(and true there is something going on at full lock and when canning it hard or slowing) Where to get them and which ones to go for though,im on a budget so nothing too fancy. Can i use ones from 2.0gti mk3 or the 1.9tdi or does it have to be 2.8 specific,i also seen some cheap ones for sharan 2.8 and

update.. So i managed to get the tops lossened off ok but had some probs with the bottom bolts being super tight, anyway the new shocks, mounts and bearings are all in on all 4 corners i also took the time to do the outer arb bush/links when i was there.car is feeling alot better and stable now but in still getting wierd noises :-( Kind of sounds like an odd creaking like when you bounce on a knackerd chair or mattress but louder, im also getting this mad noise that sounds briefly like a grinder going but ive only ever heard this over 2particular streches of road so it must be the camber of the -

cherrs i will.just finished the rears the other day and had a bit of a time getting them out ended up having to put spring compressors on with it in situ under the arch winding the spring right in then compressing the shaft right in to get the clearance to get it under the arch, prob didnt help that i just had one side up at a time and the whole beam couldnt swing down and the fuel tank part on the right side one made less room aswell.all perfect now tho -

thanx lee not really got access to a decent compressor and airgun.you think those cheap electric impact guns you get that plug into the fag lighter would spin it off? -
Hi just needing some advice as im doing my front shocks at the moment. I havent even got the old ones out as the allen bolt part of the main shaft at the top mount has totally corroded,i tried the right size allen key and now both have completely disintegrated with the slightest turn on it. i was thinking of just hacksawing right thru the shaft bellow the nut but cant as the top metal cap goes down into the opening and theres nowhere to bet a blade in. Any help or tricks for getting the nut of when the allen key bit has rounded would be greatly appreciated cheers

Unsure about the cap tbh i mean it feels ok going on and seems to tighten ok and wen i loosen when warm i get a hiss.anyone got an idea how to check the cap short of full system pressure check as tonyvrt suggested

Had a poke around the footwells and carpets and dry also.when i done the temp sensor i lost quite a bit of water but i just topped it back up to max that was 2wks ago,i checked the level the day after and it was fine.this is the only time its had low coolant since i got it.ive done 50ish miles between sat when the light came on and today and so far level stable

Hi im just wondering where my coolant is going.First off my thermo is currently stuck open i found this out after reading a 00522 temp sensor fault and replacing the sensor only to find that the guage is still staying at cold. When i was in there to investigate and change the sensor about 16days ago i found no other wetness or signs of leaks at the time. Now yesterday my low coolant light came on i filled it right up and it took 2litres so its lost about 2litre in about 2weeks,which doesnt sound like a major leak.but i can find no signs of where its going.Oil is fine and theres no oil in the coo

I just been looking through some of the thermostat housing threads in search and cant seem to figure out where the uk guys are getting there gaskets.i have yet to find a uk site selling the housing all are american and in dollars and ive seen 3 listings on uk ebay for housing and all of them dont include the seals and wierd shaped gasket piece.am i missing something or do i just suck at the internet? could sum1 give me a nudge in the right direction please. ps: does anyone think i can get away with using the old gaskets with lots of dirko gasket compound cheers

Hi im just wondering what it means when the oil light flashes on/off on the vr. Couple of times when i go to start up from cold the oil lamp has started flashing in and out it does this for about 10secs then stops Dont think its a dodgy instrument connection as the oil light stays solid on when the pressure is low which i found out when i done oil and filter 3wks ago (oil level is good btw) Most of the time it doesnt do it,however ive been able to recreate the effect by starting engine then imediately turning ign off then when i switch ign back on to first position it flashes on/off for 10sec

Alrite. Ive been having some issues with my rear brakes recently and im not sure whats wrong or what parts to start looking at. I havent had the wheels off to inspect them yet but heres whats happening so far: Every morning i get a thump from rear left as if the brake is stuck a bit and its breaking free. Then for the first 5-10mins of driving when brakes applied i get a loud friction noise from front and rear (not metal to metal grinding more like a normal braking sound amplified several times) During this 5-10mins the pedal feels fine but the handbrake is very tight and youd struggle to pul

Thanks for all it input guys, lot of stuff to think about after xmas im going to get into sorting the handling.Havr to say the main challenge the past weeks has been learning the vr6 behavior in snow and ice conditions, its VERY diffrent to other cars ive had although its nose heavy it feels confident enough and stable going round icy corners and easy to counter small slidy bits and then im reaching a point where mid corner even at very slow speed if i give it even a few mm more on the steering it then lets loose and goes into an underseering slide,is this the way the vr6 is in ice and snow? s
