  1. just bin thinking about making the golf look a bit different, the lcd display on the clocks that are back lit green, is there anywhere that sells replacement screens with different colour back lights?
  2. my summer plans of travelling have completely gone out the window now due to serious lack of funds haha but on the plus side its means im gonna stick around and work all summer so will be able to make it to bugjam again this year! I've never met anyone off here before but would be a good chance too. I dono where I'd camp though as a few mates will no doubt be going with their T4's and what not.
  3. ahh maybe not a good idea to buy a second hand set on ebay then? Also i guess fitting new sendors means draining oil and such, in which case I might give it a miss as ive just done a full oil and filter change recently!
  4. Apologies if this is a stupid question but I not very up on the electrical side of things! I'm looking to buy a set of gauges, oil pressure and temp and voltage. Does the vr6 engine come standard with all the correct sensors attached or would I need to add after market sendors for the oil gauges? Sort of hoping I might just be able to splice the wiring into exisiting sendor wiring? Cheers for any help
  5. cheers ash thats reassuring! yeah definately tps have an offer on at the end of every month aparently and its oil month at the moment so paid £12 inc vat for 5 litres of vw reccommended oil! Soon as im back on the road and the shows come rolling round I will definately try and make it to a few meets with everyone off here, would be good to meet some new faces. Luke I must of missed that bit too when i signed up haha unless the money saved just automatically converts into beer tokens...
  6. might have to be carefull with them saying they are for a left hand drive golf maybe?

Also just got more than my memberships worth at TPS buying genuine oil, oil filter, plugs and water pump! Touch wood the new engine should be swapped over saturday, theres two of us and access to a full garage with lifts so hopefully it's do able in one day! 9. Hey up dude, do you know if they're suit a mk2 golf conversion vr6?
  10. cheers for the reply dude just wanted to confirm that was the case bit of luck will have it back on the road soon then!! is it worth picking up a 6 branch exhaust manifold too while its all out the car?
  11. i recently cooked my 2.8 obd2 vr6 when a coolant pipe split while i was driving bin offered a corrado 2.9 engine with loom and ecu. all rados were obd1 though right? so if i keep all the electrics and inlet manifold currently in my golf including the throttle body, maf and ecu and just swap the blocks over that should leave me with a 2.9 running on obd2 management right? cheers everyone
  12. Hi everyone, having some serious problems with the vr6 at the moment. I posted up last week about the possibilty of the head gasket blowing in my golf. Acoolant pipe split while I was driving and once I noticed it getting hot I tried to nurse it home so I could look what the problem was. It got too hot and cut out before I made it home. So let it cool for an hour at road side, repaired the pipe and filled up with coolant. It started fine then and got me home ok. Not driven it for about a week, just bin out now and noticed that as soon as the ignition is turned off it completely kills the pow
  13. hi dude sorry about the slow reply! i'll have a look the rad when i get home tomoz and look for a part number for you.
  14. i do modelmaking for a degree so i know my way around a mill and laith so should be ok technician even mentioned about skimming the head in uni but we don't have a fly cutter
  15. that's good to hear i had read about the guides in the premium section so was going to sign up I've got a set of spine sockets don't suppose you know the size off hand so i can make sure i have the write one! i have a fair bit of free time next two weeks so might go for it. end of the day u'll never learn anything if u don't take a chance every now n then! get some rostoff on the exhaust manifold bolts first i guess?
  16. hi guys basically i need to change my vr6 head gasket and a local garage basically doesn't want to do the job so he reckoned £800 - 1000 !! bin in touch with a machine shop and they will supply a full gasket set, head bolts and skim through cylinder head for £180. a little better i think Haha but the question is how much work is it to strip the engine down and take off the head. i don't have access to a air line so no power tools but have access to a torque wrench to do the head bolts back up. so really is it do able without power tools just a standard socket set? cheers for any advice!
  17. I've just put a BMW radiator on my mk2 with the expansion bottle built in the radiator, it's shorter than the vr6 radiators but a little bit thicker so keeps the engine just as cool as the standard radiator did. All you have to do is a bit of custom pipe working and find a way of wiring the fan switch into the system. Looks a hell of a lot tidier than having the expansion bottle in the top right corner.

    coil packs

my coil pack is on its way out and bin looking for a replacement. vw replacements are £120, I've seen people talking of swapping to a ford v6 coil from something like a v6 mondeo and just changing the plug ends too. when i went to a ford breakers today, they had ford vr6 ones for £20 am i right assuming the connectors for the plug leads would be the same as vw coils on those coil packs?
  20. cheers for the reply dude, I found the source of the problem. basically the fusebox was broken around the fuel pump fuse and as a solution someone before me had just jammed two wire terminals into it and put the fuse into them! This had worn out or come loose killing the fuel pump. Quick trip to local scrap yard and £10 for a new fuse box. Problem solved
  21. Thanks for the advice. The problem has just got stranger.... there is now a faint buzzing noise coming from the coilpack area all the time whether the keys in the ignition or not and when u try to start it now the buzzing noise just gets lower in tone and nothing happens at all. Any one got any ideas?
  22. I might have to take you up on that offer dude, i'm just looking though seen a thread on another forum about swapping it over to a ford coilpack.
  23. I was just driving home doing about 30 miles an hour and the vr just cut out on me. it turns over but wont start. I'm fearing this could be the coil pack?
  24. Cheers yeah i'll give that a go hopefully will sort out the problem
