Vr6 engine bucking under throttle
Goguvarra replied to Goguvarra's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Yes the mounts are ok, i changed the transmission side mount a while ago. I mean the thing that measures air volume which is connected to the intake boot http://www.corrado-teile.de/shop/store_files/1/images/product_images/thumbnail_images/10480_0.gif. I think i saw these 2 terms used for the same thing MAS and MAF or I might be wrong. so today I checked the compression on the cilinders, 5 of them were about 11 kg/cm square and one was about 9 kg/cm square which I understand it's within spec. I'll look at the injectors next. I also measured fuel pressure with a gauge connected to one of the -

Vr6 engine bucking under throttle
Goguvarra replied to Goguvarra's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
What do you mean by ticking over ? -
Hello, My VR (I have the 2.9 Syncro variety) is bucking pretty badunder throttle especially al low rpms, until about 2000-2500. and vibrates at idle as the needle can't seem to stand still. I changed the coilpack, MAS sensor (it was busted), spark plugs *NGK the cheaper ones with only one thingie that lights up" , spark leads. What now ? Also the car seems not to be able to burn all the fuel as there is a strong fuel smell coming from the exhaust. Should I check injectors ? Possibly a bad distribution chain install, things not aligned properly ? Fuel pump ? Other sensors not working prope

Hello guys, First of all, please tell me what model is my tranny ? I have a mk3 2.9 syncro, is it the same tranny as the 2.8 ? I searched the webs high and low and besides numerous codes like 020 02a etc I couldn't find anything specific to my car. Also can you refer to this transmission as a transaxle, I have seen this name poping up on some sites that sell these. Second. When I bought the car the shifter had a huge amount of play in it so i decided a short shift kit will solve this. I bought the RSD one from tmtuning. Throw has been significantly reduced but now i have to put a huge amount o

thanks for letting me know this is normal operation and there is nothing wrong with my car
-
...then I really have to get that AC working . I think if you press the air recycling button the air will stop coming in when the vents are turned on.

Hello, After the engine is getting to its normal operation temp (in the city mine stays just a bit above middle when the fan kicks in) the car blows hot air inside the cabin even if I have the dial set to cold. I've noticed that it gets pretty hot under the hood and I know that the VR is a hot running engine but is this normal ? I guess it's nice in the winter when it's cold but i'm damn near cooking my ass off in the car right now in the summer time. And the A/C s broken. And Is it normal for the center console to get warm to the touch along with every other plastic located in the lower area

Question about vr6 intake boot and sensor.
Goguvarra replied to Goguvarra's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
i believe your question has already been answered in the first few posts of this thread if not do a little search and you'll find much more info on the subject. The short answer to your question is no, no harm will come to your engine. -

Online parts shops in europe
Goguvarra replied to Goguvarra's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
hey thanks...i never use ebay to it didn't cross my mind to check it out . I didn't find an intake boot however. Other than eBay isn't there any online shop here in europe similar to...ECStuning for example ? really curious. Jim i've sent you a PM -
Hello, I need to buy an air boot with breather valve attached and a coil pack for my mk3 Vr6. I searched the net and I only seem to find shops that are located in the US. At least for the intake boot the only places that I could find it are in the US. What are the shops on this side of the world ? Thanks.

Question about vr6 intake boot and sensor.
Goguvarra replied to Goguvarra's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Hey thanks again for the detailed answer. one more question. what is the exact role of that vacuum line ? does it help keep the valve open or closed depending on how much I press the gas pedal ? Also thanks for the intake tube suggestion. It seems that most of the tuners with cool parts for Vr6's are located on the other side of the pond. bummer. -
well thanks looking for this answer for some time now.

Asked for this in another thread but...is that where the filter should be ? I mean does it also take air back into the crankcase ? If not it would just filter out your oil vapors right ?
-
Hello, My VR has it's intake boot pretty ripped apart and I want to change it. Questions: 1) It comes with the attached crankcase breather valve or whatever the hell it's called. The valve has a sensor connector on it which on my car is fake as far as I can tell (it's only a plastic mold without real connectors, but I do have the connector which goes into it. What's up with this ? Do I really have a sensor or not ? This is the part that i'm talking about http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Golf_III--VR6_12v/Engine/Intake/Intake_Boot/ES252000/ The part above says that it has real intake sens

Steering gets harder after a while
Goguvarra replied to Goguvarra's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Thanks, what about other fluids should I also get them genuine or something compatible ? And do you know what is the recommended changing period ? (brake fluid, transmission, coolant) -
Hello, It may be just an impression but I feel as if the steering wheel gets harder to turn after a while (after the engine gets to normal temp). Also when doing low speed maneuvers some popping sounds can be heard. tired steering pump or somethin ? Or is this the normal feel of a Vr6 steering ? (mk 3 vr6 2.9 syncro) After what mileage does the steering fluid needs changing ? Is there a special type or brand that I should use ? Thanks.

Crankcase Ventilation Valve
Goguvarra replied to *P3nfold*'s topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Hello, Same problem here. Wanted to also buy a cranckase breather filter from K/N, if I buy this where exactly do I need to fit it in ? Can I bypass the valve If I have the filter ? If I understand correctly the valve just passes gases from the crankshaft into the air intake and there' s another hose that feeds fresh air into the crankcase ? Should I attack the filter to the hose that feeds the fresh air or to the valve through which the gases exit ? thanks. -
Hello, My Vr6 came without any kind of manual from the previous owner so I kept hearing on the forums about the bentley technical manuals. I searched their website and it appears that the one for the vr6 golf mk 3 which also incorporates all the golf 3 lineup costs around 100 bucks. Is there a cheaper version out there maybe just for the vr6 golf alone ? And they didn't have one for the 2.9 vr6 exactly. I planned on buying one mainly for my mechanic to have a reference if i will ever need to do a more serious repair on the car. Aside from the tech manual is there also the "normal" owner's m

thanks for the answer. Yes I think i'm going to just change the oil for the moment. What is the oil recommendation for the gearbox ? Is it something special that I should order from the dealership or it's enough if I put the right viscosity in (like the regular oil) ? Do you guys recommend any particular brand ? One more. If i eventually decide to tinker inside the transmission can I replace some parts separately or the only repair is a brand new trans ? Thanks!
-
I understand. I didn't know that since I'm now the first owner, i've just bought it actually. Thanks for the advice. So is your car making the same thuding noise if you don't wait to shift into reverse ? So there may be a problem with the sinchronizers in the box that are worn out ? Can I change them separately or do I need a new transmission for this ? I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to cars . Can I find the car manuals here if I become a premium member ? Thanks.

Hello, VR6 2.9 synchro mk3 here. Question is when in 1st geari can hear an additional whirring sound that increases with the rpms. Mechanic says it's probably because 1st gear it's more worn out than the others and probably also the "showoff" gear as in : " let me show you how fast this car is accelerating " . Should this worry me ? It's fine other than this. And when selecting reverse I can ussually hear a deep thud. I don't hear it if I select it slowly. Thanks, Mike

Hello, Today I did a couple of maintenance parts changes onto my Golf 3(96' 2.9 VR6 Synchro), plugs, oil cleaning the throttle body etc. I just bought the car and the previous owner told me he used Castrol 10W-60 (don't know the exact brand), which seems way to thick for me. Anyway I bought Motul 5W-40 for the car and after changing it and starting the engine it sounded like a freakin Diesel ) . There was a loud rattle, like a really worn out tappet sound and the mechanic told me he thought one of the pistons was not firing. Fortunately while we were trying to figure out why would the engine

Hello, I've just bought a MK3 VR6 2.9 4WD Golf with 220K km. The car looks fine, runs fine but never having owned such a beast there are some questions that came up since I don't know if it is the normal behaviour of this car 1) The temperature rises a bit over half when I drive around in the city and is stays a bit to the left when I drive on the motorway. 2) after a driving a couple of hours the interior near the wheel and in the center between the 2 seats gets warm, not too warm and barely perceptible but if you touch it you can feel the heat. I suppose the big engine gets pretty warm insid
