  3. Through the BBS alloy i can see an range sticker on what i presume is the shock which says BOGE and then TURBO in "go faster" style writing... through the alloy i can't see any springs on either side!!! are these "shocks" standard, could it be adjusted??
  4. can't see anything obvious, and yes, there is still movement up and down.... it doesn't seem to rub when driving either.... but worried about loading it up for the drive back in a week!
  5. Hi, My VR6 is very low at the offsdie rear sheel, so much so the wheel is actually insdie the wheel arch, this is after a long trip down to cornwall loaded up with suitacase kids and roofrack, after unloading it, it hasn't risen up, any idea what could be wrong and is it possible to just raise the suspension easily to match the other side. I am on holiday so don't have any of my tools, ramps etc with me, but do have some basic tools where I am staying (near Truro, if anyone is around that area and fancies taking a look).. any help / guidance appreciated. Car is a 93 VR6 Golf which is on loweri
  6. I'm guessing you've found out already, but if not then from TPS it's ~£100 for sump, gasket and bolts. Should be just a case of draining the oil, unbolting the sump cleaning it up and then bolting the new one on. However be careful as my one has snapped bolts meaning that if you do them up to tight they will snap off in the block!
  7. Okay, in case anyone else is trying this, here's some tips. pull the top right (nearest the back) corner off first, then use a large flat headed screwdriver to get to inbetween the door card and the orange "plugs" prise the plugs out of the sockets on the door cards, thereare two on each side and i think 3 on the bottom. Do the other things it mentions on the premium members guide, however mine didn't have any torq screws. And do NOT ignore the bit about being careful not to break the door handle, Mine popped off but luckily didn't break, if your does this the you can put it back on by removi
  8. I can't see any of the torx screws at the sides and bottom that it mentions..... how do you get to them? have you done this?
  9. thanks... did a search but that didn't come up... I'll try that!
  10. sorry to hijack someone else's threads, but my new one's aren't showing up in "new Posts"... my question is...How the hell do you get the rear door cards off on a 5 door highline 93 vr6 (Golf), can't see any screws at all!! i started pulling at the bak of the top right of the a part if it came away leaving a black plastic thing on the door trim and a white plastic threaded bit on the door itself, then tried pulling further down the door but something seems to have snapped, as there is now broken orange thing on the door card and a white plastic thing with two large circles of white plastic att
  11. How the hell do you get the off, can't see any screws at all!! i started pulling at the bak of the top right of the a part if it came away leaving a black plastic thing on the door trim and a white plastic threaded bit on the door itself, then tried pulling further down the door but something seems to have snapped, as there is now broken orange thing on the door card and a white plastic thing with two large circles of white plastic attached to the door, don't want to go any further if I'm breaking stuff and I have to do this tonight as have a long drive tomorrow and the electric window on tha
  12. Hi, Just got my car back from AutoTechnic in Oxford and apparently my rear brake pipes are corroding, anyone know if you can buy these from anywhere? apparently AutoTechnic make their own from copper pipe two joiners and a flanging tool!?
  13. Hi, Apparently another bodged job on my VR6 is that the person who fitted the lowering springs didn't screw the top nut on the strut down onto the shock and now the two nuts at the top are ceased together. anyone had anything similar to this and know any ways to get them off, as otherwise they are going to have to cut them off and i will need new shocks as well, to add to my ever increasing bill!!!! thanks Ian
  14. Hi, I gave up trying find the cause of the oil leak and handed it over to a local VW/Audi specialist to have a look at all it's issues. Turns out I have a cracked sump and some of the bolts for the sump have been snapped off and other are missing... apparently someone tried to weld it before but hasn't done a very good job. I'm looking at over £200 to get it fixed by them so was wondering if anyone here has ever had this problem and resolved it themselves, how hard is it? The prices they've quoted me for the parts are TPS prices so I doubt I can get it any cheaper but they are saying upto 1.5
  15. yeah i did see that thread, mine's an 93' OBD1 HK Import (doubt that makes any difference)....
  16. Hi there, Still trying to track down the cause of the oil leak which after long periods of driving is getting onto the exhaust and smoking :-# One of the guys recommended to check the rocker cover and looking online some guys on a BMW thread have had the same issue.... so can someone post (or e-mail to i_moores at hotmail dot com) a pic of the rear of the engine highlighting where the rocker cover (probably the gasket) is so i an check if this is leaking at all? I know this is really basic stuff but without a Haynes I'm useless, it's been my bible on all my other cars!!! Thanks Ian
  17. Has no-one on here ever taken the drive shaft out and can offer me some advice????
  18. After driving to Birmingham on Friday from Oxford, I got a fair bit of smoke coming out of the engine bay when i pulled up. At first I thought it was the coolant hose that i replaced has split again but that was solid, the smell was also of oil. It was coming from the underside of where the two exhaust pipes go into one on the rear of the engine bay. What could be causing oil to flick on this and smoke? If it is the driveshaft (gator or otherwise) how big a job is taking the drive shaft out and is there a guide on here anywhere?? Thanks, Ian
  19. Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me out, I'm after either a roof rack or the foot pack for paddy Hopkirk bars (405U i think) for a MK3 5dr VR6 to either borrow for a couple of weeks at the end of July or buy cheap, can anyone localish to Oxford area (Chalgrove to be precise) help me out?? TIA Ian
  20. Although the massive TURBOCHARGERS.COM sticker and the huge stainless steel pipe going into the engine from below might give the game away somewhat........
  21. Wow cool!! I had visions of flying driveshafts whilst cornering at 90mph and me ending up on my roof in a field..... so does yours also make a knocking sound from the same wheel when dirivng along? and also when you move it (just with your hand) does it make that clonking sound? I noticed the gator is not tight to the driveshaft so it could be it's just lost all of it's grease....
  22. I think it's coming from the solenoid valve.... but not sure how, i.e if the pipes split or if somehow the valve is leaking fumes... can't see any signs of actual fluid leakage anywhere.....
  23. Just in case anyone else is reading this thread wanting to know how I got on this is what i did..... Got the car on the ramps and used a pair of monkey pliers to grab the nut holding the lambda sensor in place a bit like these ones.... Gave it an almighty tug which free'd up the nut.... Then got some white spirit and poured some in the lid of the bottle and dipped the sensor in there for about 10 secs... Then gave the sensor a good shake and a wipe off with a clean cloth.... Left it hanging to dry off completely whilst I had a ciggy Then twisted the sensor anti clockwise about 5 turns so th
