  8. gave it a good old clean up today. getting the alcantara headlining & dash done this week. thanks for the comments guys, its getting there. Ive had it a month now & TBH its been nothing but problem after problem. I was assured it was a nice and reliable car, but within 10 days it had cost me £1300, mainly due to lack of care & several badly done jobs ( e.g - the previous owner forgot to tell me that there was a wheel bolt missing, then i find it snapped off inside the 20mm rear spacer ) i also had to have a complete new set of brake lines fitted as the old ones were like balloons,

  10. I took my VR to a local race team the other day for its scheduled re wire, unfortunately it happened to be the day that the place was holding an annual Mitubishi Evo Rolling Road day!!! I looked a bit of a plonker turning up in a low euro looking VR golf, lol Anyway I had a bit of a chat with the Owner/Manager, and it turns out that he welcomes all clubs etc to turn up on a specific date & chuck members cars on the RR for a discounted rate... It got me thinking, how about we all get together, set a date & book his RR for the VR6OC guys???? His rolling road prices are £50.00 ea, for t
  11. He has just contacted mr asking for a written quote from VW Will they quote for a whole new ignition loom? I doubt they will supply individual cables....
  12. Right guys. I took your advice & contacted TAYLOR ICE DESIGNS of Cheltenham to let him know that I had traced this cable back & that the whole length needed to be repaired. Here is his text reply Hi Scott, Lee Hill here with the silver golf you worked on yesterday. After a lot of messing about, it's been confirmed that the problem was caused when the headunit was pushed back in, it got caught on the brown/red switch wire to ignition. Obviously the metal cage has caused it to short & set fire. Unfortunately it goes to the fuse box 1st so needs to be completely re run. Where do we st
  13. IVE HAD THIS PROBLEM TODAY, IT APPEARS TO BE THAT THE HEADUNIT WAS PUSHED IN TOO TIGHT AND CHAFFING ON A BROWN/RED CABLE, WHICH THEN RUNS TO IGNITION BARREL... I REMOVED THE HEADUNIT, CLEANED CABLE, TAPED IT, NEATLY PUSHED CABLES CLEAR OF HEADUNIT... PROBLEM NOW SOLVED... JUST NEED TO SOMEHOW GET TO THE BURNT OUT WIRE BEHIND WHEEL, AS ITS BLOODY TIGHT GET IT SORTED THO, I NEARLY CRIED WHEN I THOUGHT MY PRIDE AND JOY WAS ON FIRE... IMAGINE IF ITS YOUR MRS IN THE CAR
  14. IM REALLY CONFUSED LOL# I TOOK THE STEERING COWLING APART TO FIND A MELTED OUT CABLE GOING INTO IGNITION BARREL. ( BROWN & RED ) IM ASSUMING THE SMOKE WAS THE PLASTIC MELTING AS ITS BARE COPPER NOW. I ALSO REMOVED THE HEADUNIT AGAIN, TO FIND THAT THE BROWN & RED CABLE AT THIS END GOING INTO MY ALPINE BLOCK WAS FRAYED, POSSIBLY WHERE HEADUNIT HAS CRUSHED IT???? ANYWAY IVE TAPED UP THE FRRAYED AREAS, NO PROBLEM SEEMS TO ARISE NOW, NO MORE SMOKE ETC. WOULD THIS BE BECAUSE IVE FOUND THE PROBLEM IN THE FRAYED END...??? ALSO, HEADUNIT HAS STARTED WORKING AGAIN... WHY DID A FUSE NOT POP, OR T
  15. i had a mobile audio tech guy come and install my alpine headunit and amps etc today. he seemed to do a great job, all neat and tidy etc. however when i went to take the car for a quick blast with my new tunes blairing, my headunit stopped working all of a sudden and then smoke started appearing from steering wheel area.... HELP!!!!! everytime i turned the ignition on thereafter, smoke continued to fill my car. after half an hour or so, i pulled the headunit out, then it started working again & there was no smoke!!! No fuses had blown whatsoever.... What can it be??????? Suggestions plz
