  1. Was the 5dr big enough for a double pram, 2 car seats and all the nappies etc? I considered dropping the engine into something bigger but never considered a 5dr because i thought it was too small?
  2. Yesterday I found out that my missus is carrying twins :-d so the Golf has to go ;( , which is especially more painful because it's in the garage having a new head gasket, timing chains, tensioners and coilovers and a new exhaust, estimated bill so far at £1300. i can still have my fun with it up until the two little bundles of joy arrive, however fitting everything into the golf will be next to impossible.. so I'm looking at alternatives. Since owning the VR I've completely fallen in love with the engine and with it being the first V6 i've owned, I would love another. I've been considerin
  3. I found out that I need a new head gasket and handed over the keys to a mechanic for a week. With all the other work I've had done, I'll be lucky to get change out of a grand;(
  4. Well the VR went into the garage today for new coilovers and standard exhaust (boring i know) and also to find out why the suspension/steering is knocking and a slow coolant leak I've got. They're also getting it on the computer to hopefully find out whats causing the hesitation... hopefully it's going to come up with a MAF code or something.. otherwise I'm stumped. With a bit of luck, when I pick it up tomorrow all the little problems will have been ironed out and I'll love the car once again.
  5. I've just given it a go and it seemed like the problem had gone.. right up until I nearly headbutted the steering wheel as it hesitated again. I've been looking up common problems such as a cracked coilpack, duff leads etc, but this is not a random fault so I think that rules out those two, although I have just seen a crack in the coil pack... grrrr! It's going into the garage on Monday for new coilovers, standard exhaust, and a couple of other problems like suspension knocking and coolant leaks, so I think I'll see what they say about this.. although without VAG-COM i don't think they'll g
  6. Today i received and fitted a BMC CDA intake and ported throttle body. After I had fitted them I checked everything was correct and started the engine. It immediately shot up to 2000 rpm and sat there. Revving the engine and coming off the throttle, I noticed the revs were slow to drop. After stopping the engine, I had another look around to see if I missed anything, and gave it another go. This time it idled slightly high but it was acceptable as it was coldish, around 1000rpm. Then I took it out and it is hesitating a lot at low revs, as if I'd dropped a gear and booted it. I hoped it w
  7. I will do mate' date='.. as soon as I get a new set on the car I'll PM you. I considered that as I've HIDs on standard non projector lights before but had major snags with aligning them and passing MOT tests. Cheers Mike, its always nice to hear compliments.. its a little way off how I want it but with some tlc i'll be over the moon with it.
  8. I'll have to have a look to see what make the lights are so I don't overestimate the value of them, but they won't be much. It's the blue sidelight rings that I don't like, and tbh they look cheap... I prefer much subtler mods, something with the OE look but with HIDs, if they exist...but as a part time replacement these will be fine. I'm loving the green, just needs all the swirls taking out and obsessive compulsive waxing and it'll be spanking.
  9. Well I've just sold the Astra today so that should free up some funds to get the VR how I want it. I've had the car a couple of weeks now but this is the first chance I've had to get some pics up, and there's a few things that need doing. First thing that's going is the exhaust, its a decat straight through "devil" exhaust and it sucks! The sound completely drowns out the engine and although it doesn't sound tinny like the saxo boys, it's not my cup of tea, so I've found a standard exhaust and cat. Also the headlights are going back to standard, again there's nothing wrong with them,
  10. I'm not sure if the central locking pump is on the way out, or whether I've just not got used to it. It seems to be working fine at the moment. However the speedo has an intermittent fault, sometimes it reads the correct speed and then it'll drop off and read zero for a little while before coming back. Hopefully it'll be a simple job so I'll do a forum search before posting a new thread. Also it'll need a new exhaust. Its got a mahoosive backbox on it, it looks well out of place, and it's a decat so that'll be going back on. It passed its emissions tests but I feel like a chav driving arou
  11. Well I picked it up today and happy with it:) Just a couple of things I need to sort out. The accelerator sticks when I floor it, so it probably needs a new spring or something and the central locking needs sorting out. I think the alarm fob either needs a new battery or replacing. I may possibly get the whole alarm changed, I just need to get some quotes first. I'll get some pics up once I've given it a good once over with a wash mitt and a polish and wax.
  12. i'd personally go to the scrappy and get a few random panels to practice on first, you could probably take some away for free. Once you've got a technique sorted without burning any of the panels with the polisher and are happy to unleash it on your own paintwork then you're less likely to do any damage. if you've got any doubts then its better to iron them out rather than regret your inexperience by screwing up.
  13. Today I went back to have another look at a Mk3 VR6 3dr in Dragon Green, had a shuffle through the paperwork and another good look around and decided to stick the deposit down. I should be collecting it on Wednesday:) It's in good nick, the worst part of it being the seats which aren't that bad considering its a 125,000 miler. Also its got a straight through decat stainless system that'll be coming off, it's not offensively loud but it covers the noise of the engine a bit too much. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on it and have some fun. Are there any worth while tips I sho
