  1. Had a leaking matrix. Ashamed to say I ignored it for a very long time, so long that it actually rotted a hole in the passenger footwell. Garage replaced matrix for me on Friday, battering back down the motorway and noticed my eyes were burning and then noticed hazy fumes. It also doesn't smell like the sickly sweet smell I've been used too, it smells minging and leaves a horrible taste in my mouth! This did not happen before matrix was fixed. Is it just a years worth of leaking coolant getting heated up and burnt off, or should I be heading back to the garage!!
  2. car failed it's mot last week on wishbone, headlight and emissions. garage phoned last night to say it was all sorted and to come pick it up. paid my bill jumped in car and drove out forecourt. this is when i realised that handbrake, abs and airbag lights are all staying on. is it possible that when they were fitting the headlight they did something. the guy was apologetic, flumaxed and asked me to drop it back in tormorrow. my handrake has a habit of seizing on by the warning light has never come on when it has. any ideas....needle in a haystack?
  3. hiya got a P reg VR6. about a month ago it wouldn't start, got my neighbour to give me a jump start went for a long drive and all appeared ok. yesterday morning it sort of lumbered into a start but i heard a clicking sound as i was turning ignition, did the shopping and stuff and started fine. been out this morning and it clicked and died. a few wannabe mechanics have told me it's the alternator. any ideas should i try a new battery first or just give it to an auto spark? i know it's a bit of a needle in a haystack, but knowledge of cars is limited and i hate dealing with garages for thi
  4. hiya i am having a similar problem, although i can see where the drip is landing! need to top up once a week and when i turn the heater on i can smell a sweetish smell coming through the vents. have checked oil and no signs of any gunk in there so hopefully not a HG problem. three different garages have looked at it and it's really starting to bug my happiness! have no idea how much is left in car and temp is plumeting....
  5. thank you everyone. will have to slum it in a tranny van for a few days till she's back on the road!
  6. my wee car has just failed it's mot been told both the nearside and offside mac struts have excessive movement at the upper attachment. here comes the silly girlie question... do you have to replace the whole thing or is it just a bit of it that needs replaced? do you have to buy special tools to do the job? any idea how much it would cost to get it done in a garage, bit pushed for time to get it done at home.
