  1. If i do swap the engine, (which is probs going to be a Corrado project now, i couldn't live with myself if i broke the golf up. I will be looking to do a few things to bring the 1.9 up to 130bhp, which i know is quite easy and reliable with injector upgrades and a chip. TBH a 130 bhp diesel is a fast motor, lots of the torqz! lol
  2. still playing about with ideas. Swapping a diesel engine into the VR6 car is a straight swap pretty much, but it is a lot of hassle, and could spoil a good car. I am rebuilding a Honda Integra DC2 type R atm, for a weekend blaster, and to have the VR6 aswell would cost a fortune. The other idea i am looking at is buying a cheap corrado 16v and a passat based on the mk3 chassis, and swap that over as most parts are compatible, bar a fual tank. That way i could sell the golf for about £1200ish and buy the mk3 diesel car for its engine and a £500 corrado and do it up. Car work isn't a scare fo
  3. Hi guys, As my credit hasd crunched, i am looking to run a cheaper car than the vR6. I do love the golf, but the 2.8 is getting gutsy, as an option my old man and i are considering swaping a 1.9tdi mk3 VW engine into my VR6, as the mounts look identicle and there wouldn't be too much wiring to sort out. I would be looking to sell the VR6 as a running engine, new clutch etc along with exhaust, ecu and petrol tank. However i am not sure if anyone has done this before, i know i have seen corrado's with diesel engine swaps, which is another idea. Can anyone let me know if the diesel 1.9 out of a m
  4. tried looking at the fluid level, tis a bit low, but still well within the min\max levels, however the little plastic but that goes from the float to the top\sensor, moves a teeny bit, i can hold it down and nothing changes but if i take out the whole assembly, the light seemed to dim a bit, so will top up level and fiddle a bit more. if its a short in the look, that could be from when i was pulling the clocks forward to replace the bulbs that light the speedo etc. is there a connection in that that i could have knocked out etc in the dash, as i cant pull it out, only rock it forward.
  5. No, i know. Was just saying, i did search, and found hel;pfull info, just not the exactly helpful info i needed lol.
  6. yes read through them, hence why i checked these things before posting, i know the search button is to be used first, but it was to no avail this time.
  7. Yes and its always on, some idiot broke the wires on the front wheel for the sensors, i tried to fix it but it didn't take...on verge of taking bulb out as i know brakes all work fine, car has had recent MOT and been to local set up firm to ahve ignition, tracking etc etc done, he tunes rally cars and is a fine guy, he looks for issues for you etc. Vag com'd the car and only 1 major fault and that was engine management, which we believed was the old coilpack, which we fixed and the fault was gone after he cleared the codes. so this brake thing i think is a minor niggle. Its annoying as i had
  8. will have a look at lunchtime. It could be worn pads, but i am pretty sure there is plenty meat left on them all.
  9. Hi all, I noticed the other day whilst i was fixing a dash light, that my handbrake light (the red one) was staying on slightly when the handbrake was off (i,e. dim light). However after a day or so the light is now on full when the handbrake is on or off. I have checked the switch in the handbrake and it seems fine, the light stays on no matter what i do, and it was working fine a day ago. i checked my brake fluid level and it seems fine, and the brake fluid holder is in good order, nothing poped off etc. Does anyone know what else could cause the handbrake warning light to come on all the ti
  10. The only good thing abiout the lighting was it doesn't show up the swirls that are evident in the paint, but that is for when i get a rotary polisher and some scrap panels to test on, then i will be having at it to de-swirl the car prior to sale. a new 6 cylinder german motor project may take its place, though, unfortunately it wont be vag!
  11. To get the car cleaned: Washed with poorboys super suds shampoo, used Meguiars lambs wool wash mit. car was then clayed using megs medium clay bar and quick detailer as a lubricant. Car was then washed again, all soap hosed off (power washer couldn't be used as the pipe had a leak from the house so only hose pressure was available. Car was dried with a waffle weave towel, then a coat of Auto Glym super resin polish was applied. This was buffed off with super plush microfibre cloth. wheels were cleaned with autoglym clean wheels, then sealed with a coat of auto glym super resin polish and then
  12. Since i have got the engine troubles all sorted, and it was a sunny day, i decided to give the golf a proper clean. Some pics of the days labour. I then had to mums mini the next day...my poor arms....too much polishing.
  13. She is fixed!!!!! yay. The long and short of it: Bought new coil pack off ebay (brand new) changed parts, car runs like dream! However also changed over the course of the weekend, new clutch, new engine mounts all round, new plugs, new oil filter and oil change, new leads from VW. So hopefully all is well, my temp gauge now reads fine (old thermometer worked but was so easy to push open, it seemed to open as soon as system had pressure! Just need to get a new bulb for the instrument panel as only my rev counter gets ligt shone on it....need to scour the scrap yards! Cheers to all for the advi
  14. Hi all, as my car is getting lumpier byt the day i think my coil pack has now decided to give up the goat. However i could be wrong and its summat to do with the fuelling. As i have just shelled out for a new clutch and engine mounts, my bank balance is having a lie down. As a result i want to be sure it is my coil pack that's goosed before i stump up the £120 from GSF for a new one. Are there any aberdeen - shire based owners who could come to mine for a half hour that would be willing to let me try their coil pack out on my engine to rule out if that is what is cauding the problem. There w
  15. I am going to swap my coil pack for the one i got on ebay (still in the garage, see if the odd hesitation is still apparent even if the coil makes the car run a bit rough, as that may show the car is hesitatnt because of a faulty MAF or something similar. If not i will try and see if anyone local has a VR6, as its a bit hard when you live 16 miles from town. Any aberdonian VR6 owers going about??
  16. Thats a shiny fireblade you have there. Looking at a new bike myself this spring. That is if i don't go mad and shoot the VR6 for bloody electrical gripes!
  17. Right, Vag-Com'd the car last night, no fault codes found. Went over all the connectors in the engine that could have got wet etc, took them off sprayed on some WD40 and looked for any corrosion or burns etc. Ran the car, seemed marginally better, but the car still has problems with hesitation. sitting at say 45 in 5th on a constant throttle, i.e. sitting at the same speed) the car sputs and starts and flutters about, like someone is flicking the light switch on and off very quickly but only every now and then. I also noticed that when in 3rd or 4th say, and accelerate the car is 'fluffy' and
  18. i will plug in the vag-com when i get home, main issue is the laptops battery has packed up and gone, so it needs to be plugged in to work....so there are about 40 cables needed to get it all working fine,,,bloddy garage wiring. ah well. seems its an evening of me, lappy, wd-40 and a cloth. I spose its why we run older cars.
  19. eek, i remember the bentley one being advertised for my old corrado...twitch. I am sure i saw a vento\jetta haynes manual in the local autosave, not sure if it covers VR6. will have a look as they are about £20. If no, and the cars engine mounts last till next payday (2 weeks) i can get the bently one. Are they any good, i.e. pictures with clear explanations??
  20. Hi mate, thats the plan for this evening, basically unplug, clean and spray each one in a line, then see whats what. I do have the shareware vagcome, and i could give it a go and see if there is any faults, but it usually comes up negativo! As ever an electrical gremlin is always a pain to source. oh does anyone know if the Vento\jetta Haynes manual is any good for giving directions for removing the clutch, as its always nice to have a few pics for reference, as i know you don't get a golf VR6 haynes manual. Cheers again
  21. I don't have vag-com, i don't know anyone with vag com, i got the shareware version and it said nowt was wrong when i had the misfire, and all the tools you need to delve further are only in the full version. So that was waste of an ebay purchase. I appreciate Vag-com is usefuull but at some £200 to buy it, just to check one thing, is too much cash. I am more looking to see if anyone has had probs with hesitation after getting water in somewhere, I am not trying to sound rude or anything mate, but it does get a bit tiring when ever you ask someone something on this sitem, the usual response i
  22. Hi all, well my car has started running a bit odd. I got a misfire issue sorted last year with new plugs and leads, i tried a coil pack but it made the car worse so it seems okay, anyway i was at a dyno run the other day and the car ran well, even the test guy said for a 100k car it ran really well and sounded crisp, got 174 bhp at the flywheel!! So i took it home and gave it a good wash as the weather is quite nice up here atm. Anyway i was cleaning the crap from the engine bay using degreaser, and i rinsed it down using a very low setting hose, i.e. a tricjkle, i had covered the battery and
  23. yes but ordering it means i have to wait till it arrives, pay for postage, and fanny about when it arrives, i need to get this done this evening lol.
