  1. Dont panic! My T5 showed 87mpg on overrun!
  2. My care allways plays a tune when the keys are left in the ignition or the lights are left on. Do all VRs do this? My GL TDI certainly didnt.
  3. Yeh. More room for crisp packets! ha..ha
  4. 0-60 dont mean a lot . 0-100+ is far more fun.
  5. Yef. I hate heavy traffic. The auto are quite exceptional in the "heel toe, heel" dept. Then when you hit an open road yo are free to go up and down the box. Rudddy superb!
  6. Hi venerable jetta VR owner, This is my point exactly. Whilst there may be good sets out there (god I hope yours are) There are heaps that are not. One of the early signs of failure can be a sense of wheel imbalance, thats if your lucky! My concerns are genuine. I have no axe to grind and I do not wish to cause alarm. Nor do I imply they are all duff. I can only sugest that when considering such items researce them first. look for type approval from manufacturers. Forget the bull on the box hencforth known a bullocks. Thank you for your response to my article. Now where the heck do I get
  7. Without looking. I would hazard a guess----Try the condenser within the distributer. Last time I swapped one over it was a silver cylindrical type. Being VW yours may differ in design. But none the less they can fail. Next wash your hands and make they are grease free and dry.Check the six brass pick up points within the cap for deposits. If they have grey/green deposits. Clean them off with a sharp object. Take care not to scratch the cap itself as this can induce arcing. Also look at the inner centre of the dist cap. Here you will see another pick up which may be sprung loaded. Make sure
  8. Hi.It seems you are used to them and how to sellect and fit the correct type. Howevever I have come across numberous ill fitting and/or cracked sets over the years, wheels-n-all! Mostly on the front where they get the most stress. Either way the wrong ones can be lethal. God knows how many "ying tong ping" sets are out there! One size fits feck all if you know what I mean. If you use them all year perhaps you would be kind enough to let me/us in on the brand you use. Also please advise on insurance situation. Please dont get me wrong. If they are pucker as yours seem to be then fine. I may
  9. Hi. In a word dont. Spacers are bad news.
  10. Hi , Is this the early type engine ie: with distributer?
  11. One hand on the wheel' date=' the other drinking a gallon Mr Pibb :-d [/quote'] Yep! One yank and theyre off! (6)
  12. Hi.I dont rag it in auto.Just cruise in it. I use the manual function thats where the fun begins. For example. From a standstill, select 2nd or third. Not first. You will find that whichever cog you select it will kick off in 1st and run on into the pre-selected gear. The rate of nots will depend on how much welly you give it. ie : the harder the welly the longer it will hang onto each cog. You may find it changing gear at about 5000rpm or more. You can come back down the box simply by pulling it down a gear. This will use the overun power to act as a brake. Much the same as a manual only f
  13. I have yet to find a problem with the auto box. They give you are higher level of versertility and if you know how to use them you will soon discover you can play them like a piano. I believe they are 4spd with LSD diff. Most handbooks do not give you comprehensive instructions. Next time you see one grab it ! They are a hoot to drive (if you have the knack)
  14. If the big ends are going then its pretty much 50/50. I have stripped dozens of bottom ends in my lifetime and it really is a case of pot luck. I sugest you prepare for the worst but pray for the better outcome. By the way what made it go?
  15. How about BKR6E ? I just happen to have a set lrft over.
