Advice on oil pump shaft please
petrolh34d replied to petrolh34d's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Ok, finally got round to doing this. Feckin hell like, there just aint enough hours in the day :/ Just want to extend a big thanks to paul parky. I've posted this on numerous forums and you're the only one who's replied. Worked out exactly as you said it would, although the little oval plate was a bitch to get off until I figured you have to pry it off with a screw driver from the direction of the bulkhead. Got the little broken bit out of the drive shaft by using the nut and blobs of weld technique. It's no wonder that it wouldn't come out with a magnet etc, the wee bitch was twisted in there -
Advice on oil pump shaft please
petrolh34d replied to petrolh34d's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Thanks for the advice man, I've posted on loads of forums about this and your the only one who's helped. Aye, I've taken the oil pump. Long story short, I shattered the end of the oil lift pump, and have acquired a replacement one but when I went to put it on, I noticed that the shaft for driving it was broken and one the ends was stuck inside the engine. It's broken off nearly flush with the engine and I can't get it budged. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks again mate. -
One of the ends of my oil pump shaft (the little allen key bit) on my VR6 has snapped off and is stuck inside the part of the engine that it slots into. I've tried using magnets and I've tried using metal glue on the end of a metal rod to try and get it out, but it is still stuck fast. Is it held in place by a grub screw or some sort of clip? I can't seem to get it budged at all!

Car was due for MOT today, took her for a spin last night, heard a bang from underneath the car, which isn't completely out of the ordinary. Turned car to come home about 3 minutes later, gave her the shoe, oil light and siren come on. I'm like wtf, she couldn't be out of oil, I just checked her. Pulled in, jumped out, oil pissing everywhere. Towed home. This morning, busted sump off, end of lift pump shattered, all pieces of shattered lift pump recovered from inside the sump. Didn't make it to MOT cry What end of lift pumps will fit my 1996 VR6 please? Also, is there anything else that I sho

Quick suspension question?

Anyone? -
Did any of the VR6 range come with 16" wheels on? That's what I have on mine, and I thought they were standard fitment.
-
Are the rear top mounts on a VR6 Golf the same as the front ones?
-
VW have actually provided a great solution which was included in the spec of most of their cars with electric windows. i.e. Crap electric windows lol I was wondering why my back windows weren't working , so pulled the door cards off, and low and behold, the familiar sight of a piece of wood holding up a VW electric window lol.

The cooling fan? Realised the 5 amp one (the one closest to the passenger wing) in mine was blown the other day, and replaced it, but I can't notice anything operating differently.
-
Are they on all VR6s? I though it might've been something to do with the TOAD security system.

I have two fuses located beside my water resevoir, can anyone tell me what they are for?
-
I usually reset mine at each fill as well. It's strange, because the reading that you get from the average MPH seems to be alot lower than you would expect.
-
What does the MPH function on the MFA do? I imagine it's average speed, but it doesn't seem to read anything like I would expect. Also, what does MFA stand for? Multi Function ?
-
I keep topping up the coolant, and I imagine that the water temp is pretty normal. It takes between 10-15 minutes in the morning to reach the first waypoint on the guage, and then goes up to the middle of the guage and stays there if I am sitting in traffic.
-
Funny enough, my coolant resevoir is leaking water from the middle, where the two halfs are joined. I've got another one arriving tomorrow, is it likely to make a differnece when I install it?
-
No, there's no damp in the carpets, but the car is a bitch for steaming up all of the time.
-
Dunno if this is the right section, but my heater fan is really weak, and the air coming out of it is not very hot (obviously I am waiting for the car to heat up) Also when I have the air directed solely towards the windscreen, most of the airflow comes from the passenger side, and barely any comes from the drivers side. Could this be a blosked pollen filter, or anything else?

Jesus Pete, I bet your MK2 was like greased lightning, covered in shit being forcefully propelled of a shovel hehe. She looks extremely tidy as well.

Often considered using BP Ultimate, it's the only half decent fuel you can get around here, and have been lured by promises of extra miles per tank, but with the way my VR's guzzling fuel at the minute, and the fact it's about £1.17 a litre around here, I've not filled her up on it yet. Does it really make that much of a difference? I know I'd be putting it in a VR, but is there anything to the claims of extra miles to a tank?

Couldn't agree with you more on the comfortable to drive part, I love mine for that bit. I'm not ready to spend thousands on her just yet though, I imagine I'll probably go through a few cars and then come back to a VR6 at some point. I'll hold onto her for now though. When I come back to tune a VR it might not be in a Golf though... i've always fancied a mid engined VR6 Polo 6n track car (6) hehe

From what you're saying, I suspect that there might be something wrong with my VR then, I'm realistically averaging about 26 mpg normal, and about 30 on motorways, and that is actually trying to be fuel efficient :/. Ok, so maybe my car might not be running right, but as regards to what Jamesr said about an economical car that's fun and not a diesel, I'm not looking for an economical car, I realise that power doesn't really come without a price. When I changed from my MK2 Gti (which was very quick), I expected that since she had quite a bit of tuning done to her, that a VR6 would not be too fa

Yeah Ben, I certainly does fit the bill of a motorway cruiser, I mean I love the nice smooth ride and the subtle note of power that's always in the background when she's out on the open road. I've heard that tuning can reap serious rewards, but how does this affect fuel consumption? In standard guise, I would rate the VR6 as being pretty bad as far as bang for your fuel buck goes.
