  1. 167 is a lot of miles mate, having said that if its had the timing chain & tensioners done recently it may be okay, also you need to check all other stuff that will tend to be worn at that sort of mileage, i.e pads & disks, exhaust, alloys + tyre condition, just that little lot could cost you the same as the car again very quickly, its not so much an expensive car to purchase as it is to run and maintain correctly, best of luck whatever you decide.

  2. hey girls and boys, as the title says in the title, going to do my heater matrix in the next few days, called t.p.s in colindale today, quoted £102:00 + v.a.t.

    Just checked it on GSF, £37:80 + v.a.t ( - my VR6 discount)

    eurocarparts - £27:95

not a little difference, just wondering if anybody was aware of the difference between the 2, and if almost triple the price is justified?

    all help appreciated.

  3. if speed is the most important factor here mate, go for the mitsi, its a bloody quick car out of the box, drive it for 6 months, and the beauty with that car is that as long as the engine is sweet, and the work that he says has been done, you can chuck £1500 at it and get it up around 350 to 370 brake, reliabe. that doesnt even get you a stage 1 supercharger on the vr, and as you mentioned, the traction then becomes the issue, whereas the 4wd on the mitsi will make it a bit more bearable, and then that thing will be silly quick, but be warned tne interior looks like a sheeps intestines!!!!!!!

  4. yeah thats about right for the type of mileage youre indicating, you may get it up ever so slightly with an oil service, plugs e.t.c, but unfortunately its the comletely wrong car for such a short journey, you need to remember that despite being a 2.8 it is a 12 valve engine, so its much more comfortable and economical at higher speeds, i drive about 18 miles aound the north circular to work and the v.r is ideal, whereas when im just running around to the bank, tesco's, to a mates round the corner the fuel seems to be disappearing like ive got a fuel leak!! but its a fact of vr ownership and we like to think of vr's as Smiles Per Mile ;) and if you do ANY preformance mod, yes your m.p.g's will go further south, official combined m.p.g's for your motor is about 32.5 or something combined, but i dont know how they come to these figures, over the last 35000 miles i havent managed to get above about 25 mpg's.

i suggest you get yourself a golf mk4, gt tdi, 130 or 150 brake, get it chipped, and especially on your type of journey you will point to point be easily as quick as a standard vr6, oh and youll'e be doing about 40 - 50 mpg's below legal speed limits!!!

  5. ok boys well ive voted for 5th gear and here are the reasons.

as far as it being a cheap imitation bbc are che cheapest bastards on the planet, i dont see them giving away any cars, ps3's, plasma screens, e.t.c, e.t.c.

secondly yes jezza has a lot of personality and he is funny, but those of you old enough to actually remember old top gear, with jezza, tiff, quintin and vicky near the end. you will recall that clarkson wasnt the one doing all the powersliding and stuff with the supercars. it was tiff.

i dont rate many drivers personally, but this guy is truly magnificent, james may is a t*t, knows sod all about cars, and constantly talks about either s**t cars or stuff unrelated to fast cars, plato is also a current race driver.

and lastly the fifth gear handling circuit is a lot better then the top gear one.

  6. i had my head rebuild from a place called race power engineering near maidstone, ill get the guy's number if you want it, also gave him the inlet to polish and port match, this old boy is their specialist and he sits there taing his time and doing a nice methodical job, cost £600, but that was cash, and that was just the head rebuild, the labour on the stripdown/ rebuild was separate.

  7. ok well you'd be surprised at what funny stuff the leads the can make it do, ive been through 3 sets in the last couple of years, the beauty with the vr6 lump is that its not really that comlplicated, so id suggest trying the leads, theres another thread open on here, as for the coilpack, i just replaced mine, so if there is a disturbance in the delivery of the current to any particular cylinder, then it will cause some sort of judder/jerk, or are you just getting a noise and no power loss?

  8. if u dont fitt a resisor u will put ur airbag light on and will not be able to put it out ... and i think u will also fail mot if ur airbag light is on ...???

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

yes technically it is a failure, but a friendly m.o.t guy might not be too fussed!!, also you can fit the resistor later and reset usng VagCom. So you'lle be fine as long as you get roud to doing that before your'e next m.o.t.
