  1. hi, im ideally after a set of 'standard bbs' caps for the mk3 vr.When i had my wheels refurbed about 2 years ago i bought some resin dome wolfsburg ones as a stop gap to just stick over my rather tatty bbs ones.I would like to get some bbs ones now, does anyone know the best place to get them from?

  2. butter is good for removing tar believe it or not! i only use 'Maguirs hot rims all wheel cleaner' available from halfords in a tall purple bottle it is absolutely great on my standard hard to clean bbs rims! i use a half inch paint brush to reach into the most awkward places. It seems very mild compared to most other wheel cleaners which you can feel burning your skin! imagine what it does to your wheels!! give it a go i think you will have some joy.

  3. scotts of sloane square used to do nothelle 3.2vrs, using a very expensive crankshaft, i think it was bored and stroked and at the time they were very nicely done, also expensive.Does anyone remember c&r enterprises doing their black vr golf a few years back? i cant remember the spec but i do remember it being a very nice vr.

  4. what do people think about 16v mk2 and mk3 gti's? i know people progress through time to own a vr probably owning a 16v on the way, but some people return to the fold, preferring the 'eight burnin eight turnin' route.Im just interested to know what people think about them compared to a vr etc, cheers

  5. its the rep mobiles that hack me right off.to them its just 'an old golf, move over' it has dawned on me that over my 7 year vr ownership that perhaps ive realised they are no longer up there like i always thought they were, which is sad.times change, and its the diesel brigade who seem intent on exploiting this.

  6. good evening all, ive just secured myself a vw related private reg number, it only has 5 characters and i was wondering, without altering the font and style are you legally allowed to make the actual plastic plate that bit smaller in the horizontal direction? i have seen a few done in this way (tatton park recently) and if so whre is the best place to get them made up and what is the best method of attaching them?.i currently have ABT TUNING etc surrounds on my car.

  7. hello all. quick question: returned to my car after a shopping trip at the trafford centre, throwing it down as usual! went to open the tailgate, no problem, put the sons trolley in the boot and went to close the tailgate, didnt slam it or anything, and it just wouldnt catch on the pin and bounced up again.tried several times using varying degrees of (anger!) pressure but it refused to fully close. in the end i had to use my halfords tyre compressor cable to tie the tailgate up to the rear headrest! do i just need a new boot lock?

  8. ive had mine re bored etc with corrado items being used to give 2.9L.Had it done at awesome 3 years ago. initially needed a new motor but they sourced all the bits and carried out the work.it feels nice to drive still needs to "spool up" though! altogether very pleased with it , its nice to have a bit more.

  9. read a few posts about moving on from the vr6 and related articles comparing the r32.my own opinion is that i would personally not feel very comfortable with the attention one would get from certain elements of our society if i ran an r32 (robbing bastards and general scum would un nerve me i think) thats where the trusty old vr comes in: it looks like nothing special in comparison. i havent had any problems in mine from such people but in this day and age car jackings are common, maybe the r32 is too attractive if you understand me.I sometimes feel the vr is "yesterdays car" and that more mundane cars can cause a few problems out on the open road. But it still does a very good job for me!

evo mag recently ran a group test of the (so called) all time great front drivers. the vr corrado came nowhere being described as " too clumsy" there was no mk2 golf, the usual suspects though 205 gti clio williams et al were there. the mk1 golf hardly got a mention.

Why do some people just not entertain vws finest? autocar rate the mk2 gti golf a bit, but evo dont really have great things to say about the corrado as mentioned nor the mk1 and certainly not the mk2 which are vws greatest efforts over the years. oh well thats their opinion

  10. ive got a standard system on my vr, i think (at times) it sounds really good, other times i wish i could hear more! but my car is standard in appearance.I did have an ernst system form G&S on one of my old mk2 8 valve GTI's some years ago and i thought that was very good, it sounded very nice. They do a system for the vr as well.I have seen lots of promotion for the milltek stuff, at awesome gti they swear by them, and also as a subscriber to vw driver mag, you do tend to have milltek rammed home almost every month in some way or another. i have no experience in milltek products but did like a supersprint system i had on my old audi 80 16v sport, i would be tempted by one of these again but i dont think the standard kit on a vr is so far off the mark really, and now ive got a child i dont want to be labelled as a boy racer! people at work do tend to notice shit like that!

  11. ive got a couple of small rust/corrosion bubbles on the very base of both front doors on my vr, and also some directly above where the number plate lights are on the tailgate, (these are appearing on the very edge of the lock plinth) whats the best remedy for repairing these areas without going mad with new panels, its not really exstensive YET!!! thanks

  12. many thanks for that, no the reason i was asking about v5 motors is because we may be replacing my wifes car, ive got an L reg obd1 vr6 2.9 but its getting on in age now, its early days but i thought id ask in readiness for the future. i absolutely love my vr, just wish it was newer sometimes, mind you weve had it seven years! i want to keep my vr but can i justify spending loads of till on it if there is a newer alternative?.read tim stile’s book many times over, not sure if he is so keen on vrs, there was a huge wave of approval over 1.8Ts (tuneable) in recent years and you just start to doubt/ask questions of your own car.one thing is for sure, i will never pilot a diesel, they and their owners piss me right off! regardless of make or model, a diesel will be annoying you no matter what.To think people called (still do) gti owners etc for their conduct on the road! cheers roper

  13. quality! keep up the good work chaps, i personally find bm and merc "drivers" tend to think they can do what they want because theyve spent considerably more money on their cars than most people, but they do need a good hiding every now and then. hell of a lot of new m3's around at the moment, dont reckon my vr could do much against one of those! the little cars such as clios and lol corsas and fiesta's are just not worth wasting juice on!

  14. this isnt technically in the correct category, but being quite new to all of this and it being mildly about the state of tune of other vrs here goes! has anyone had any interesting run-ins against other performance cars that have surprised even a vr owner positive or negative? i dont like to get involved with other road users prefering to pootle along calmly, but sometimes i wonder for instance how other peoples cars modified or standard have fared against say some wanabee in a tt (non enthusiast usually) i was flashed out of the way last week by a tt on the m602 and couldnt be bothered getting drawn in, cheers, roper

  15. hello, ive had my mk3 vr6 which is a obd1 model fully rebuilt at awesome. it is now 2.9 and is a standard car (apart from the capacity increase) what sort of figures do you think it should/ will produce? ive been told that it may require the software from a 2.9 vehicle to actually make the standard figures of a 2.9 if you are with me! i presumed it would now be as all 2.9 cars? many thanks.
