  1. Motorworld, again! Tried making enquiries regarding some BSA rims late last year, was told that they don't come in 5 stud fit. Contacted BSA who said they did. Contact MW again and corrected them, they apologize, re-check and tell me that they do but not for the VR6 specifically. I question it and they tell me that they had consulted BSA. Contacted BSA who said that was Bo**ks but couldn't match MW price. Contacted MW again with correct part numbers and guess what. Deal had expired and they wouldn't budge. To**ers!
  2. I think it's limited to stainless steel systems only. Mild steel doesn't expand in the same way. You have to watch the tips too, they're scolding hot for a long while after you've switched off lol as my local carwash guys found out when one of them cleaned some soot off with his finger. Left some of his finger on there too :@
  3. Guys, thanks allot for the advice. I suppose 16s would be the best all round compromise. My wife's tiny A class Merc has 15s which make my VR rims look like moped wheels! Perhaps the acceleration is more down to perception? Anyone have any before and after sprint times?
  4. Thanks for the reply Pete London prices! I spoke to Stealth not long ago and although very helpful I more or less got the same response except the £1400 did include tappets and reconditioning the head. Don't know if this is good or not? Such a pity that such a nice machine could potentially blow at any time. VWs response is that the chains last, wait for it... 'forever' of course they won't put that in writing or offer any sort of warranty on that advice.
  5. £300's good money, most 'Clutch Centre's' do it for around £350/400. Slightly off topic, just before I had my exhaust system rebuilt (lovely full stainless from Longlife, £300inc) VW quoted me £646inc for a standard system!! My dad was quoted £900 for a clutch for his Polo. I seriously think the Stealerships invent their prices on the spot. We're talking £100ph on labour alone...
  6. Most after market system do knock after a while. I think it's due to the weight of the system lol the tail pipes alone weigh a fair bit. I think the heat thing is down to the VR being a 6 pot and the exhaust gasses being that much hotter. Never happened on other 4 pot machines I owned. It sure threw me, I'd just pulled away from Longlife, pulled into to get some fuel and though 'EH?! What's going on here?!' lol
  7. Hi, forgive me if this has been asked before or if the answer is obvious. I'm considering swapping the standard 15" rims for 17s. I hear that this will affect performance/acceleration? Is this true? It was my understanding that by going up in wheel size you compensated by going down in tyre size i.e lower profile. If this is the case, how does it affect performance? I would expect handling to suffer a little... Glad of any advice. Thanx
  8. Hi, I'm looking for a decent VW specialist in the Middlesex area that KNOWS the VR6 and doesn't charge the earth. Can anyone help? I'm getting fedup with 'Ooooh, sounds like the cam chains, that'll be three days and £1400! Thanx
  9. Hey Guys, I'm new to the VR6OC. My sister and I also have Longlife systems fitted to our 96 & 97 VR6s. Mine has twin oval slash cut (3.5x3") twin tailpipes and we both get the same heat expansion where the tailpipes stick out an extra inch. It returns to normal after a short while but is very hot for a while. The tailpies turn blue/black after a while but can be polished back to new with a good metal cleaner/polish. I use autosol. Other than that, happy with the system
