Right i have now replaced the cam and crank shaft sensors to no avail. Suspected the immobiliser but have been told it is not this as the car would start and then cut out.
What i have checked is
The fuel pump works
There are no fault codes
\I have 12v going to the coilpack when the ignitionis on
I have no spark
So it is eigther the coilpack or an ECU problem
Any other checks would be welcome??

i will but can't afford it till pay day the 25th of Feburary oh joy. offshore next week anyway plus i have another car to use just thinking of the fuel im saving driving a 1.1 over a 2.8
-
ok phone call done have to send him the ECU 150+VAT so suppose it is cheaper than sending the car to VW to fix it.

-
ok will do 2moro starting to get sick of this already changed the crank and camshaft sensor
-
well it is an OBD2 which is a pain!!
must be a way to bypass it somehow if only i could find a ned!!!
-
one problem i ain't got vag-com i have access to a scanner or a snap diognostic kit
-
no sparks at all mate!!! it aint cracked had it off yesterday and looked good. plus the car was running one day without a hitch and the next day it decided it would not start and it does not fire at all ever
-
right got a fault with my car and my mate who used to be an Audi/VW mechanic has diognosed it as eigther a fault with the coilpack although no fault code.
or he thinks there could be a problem with the factory immobiliser ie. chip in key not getting picked up.
seeing as it is possible to steal a VR6 there must be a way of bypassing this immobiliser has anyboy any idea cos this would confirm the coilpack??
-
should a coilpack fault bring up a fault code on vagcom?? just i have no fault code
-
finally discovered my car won't start cos the coilpack is dead??
so what are the different options?? price dare i ask?
-
well it must have been 514 i replaced?? it was called a crank shaft sensor.
my car actually brought up engine speed sensor as the code so what is this??
My car is a late 96 mate so should i not have a fault code now??
-
Right my car refused to start a while ago
done diognostics and it came up with
1-00513 Engine Speed Sensor - G28 - Idle RPM Too Low
00513 Engine Speed Sensor - G28 - Idle RPM Too High
00513 Engine Speed Sensor - G28 - Signal Malfunction
2-00668 Battery Power Voltage Supply (Terminal 30)
I know the engine speed sensor clears when the car is running so can ignore that
Is this defo the crank sensor cos 514 says crank position sensor where as 513 is engine speed sensor so are they both the same sensor or not??
I have tried a new crank shaft sensor to no avail
The low voltage is a presume cos my battery is half flat it cleared as i was jumping the car at the time of checking.
The car has no spark as far as i can tell so could it be the coilpack or something??
-
i do indeed have coilovers
i could probably lower the front more although the back is as low as it can go because i play golf and 4 sets of golf clubs and 3 passengers and it rubs if im any lower
-
looks smart doesn't it

-

well it's only 30quid so just going to do the camshaft sensor anyway.
I must admit that when i start my car the fuel pump does not wine like it usually does priming the system. so will check if their is voltage to the fuel pump fuse when i turn it over.
Could be the fuel pump relay?

here is a link to a place for secondhand parts
-
won't start at all mate just cranks over and does not fire will have to check for a spark and fuel 2moro it's just the fact it is snowing that stops me having a look.
It worked one day and not the next no sign of any problems at all
-
know how u feel mate at least yours starts!!
may be worth getting a second one cos i would imagine a new VW one will be several hundred
-
well after changing the crank shaft sensor to no avail i have now ordered a cam shaft sensor which will hopefully work with any luck. Did diognostics again to no avail just the engine speed sensor again gggrrr i hate this car
-
going to try the cam sensor 2moro not convinced though and i realy can't afford to get it fixed just now.
