  1. Hi guys, i have a bit of an annoying problem , i bumped my car a month or so back, its all repaired apart from my drivers side fog and drivers side headlight, replaced them both also with new bulbs but they still don't work, i have checked the fuses but still no luck. It seems a bit too much of a piddly little job to pay a garage but i don't have a clue what else it will be, any ideas ??
  2. I suppose it is a relatively cheap mod but i personally think that nitrous is a terrible idea unless you have you are a drag strip racer and can afford another engine when it melts your engine , i have heard of £500 being mentioned for nitrous before but that might not have been a fitted price on a vr6 !! as for the standard 98 vr6, how many miles has it got on it i don't think that it could handle nitrous without uprating other parts on the car too,i would also prefer PERMANENT extra power ie exhaust, schrick, supercharger etc, not gas that you have to refill all the time
  3. I have a dtm style scorpion stainless steel system, as systems go i think its a pretty cheap one, i liked the look of it but wasn't happy with the sound, i have taken the middle box out now and it is so loud you wouldn't believe, when i put my foot down it sounds more like a tvr than a golf, doesn't go like one unfortunately. Before it was only mildly sporty sounding but now i think it would be too loud for you,at least you know what type not to get
  4. well i have been told that the gains vary from 240-260 bhp as i have a chip, full stainless exhaust and induction kit too, but one of the main reasons i am doing it is so i can start of with a near new engine to put a supercharger on rather than putting it on an engine with 93,000 miles on that wouldn't last long the way i drive !!! As i was getting it rebuilt anyway i thought i might aswell get the displacement increased too, i wanted a quaife lsd at the time but i have spent every spare penny on the engine :-( a 6 speed box is next on the list when my gearbox blows up, so in effect i am goi
  5. yeah new pistons and rings, the pistons are forged and abigger size too to fit in with the capacity increase
  6. Hi , 90k isn't really a lot for a vr engine providing that it has had quite regular servicing and a new timing chain and tensioner(mine went at 93k ,ouch!!!),if this hasn't been changed that should give you a bit of room for negotiation cos it will cost a bit of money to replace the tensioner because of the amount of time it takes ie high labour costs, the gearbox has to be taken out to take replace the tensioner which is going to be approx 8 hours labour , obviously different garages have different hourly rates, rust shouldn't be a problem, check for the usual too ie make sure the oil is oil

I'm 25 , have a job as a team leader in a call centre, i have had my vr for about 8 months, had one mk2 gti before and a 1.3 golf too(the shame)
  8. I will wait till i get the money through from the sale of my house before i can pay for the charger conversion,no i'm not selling my house to get a charger!!(it wud be a crap house for that money) i will let you know what my car does before and after the supercharger conv, if torque is what matters performance wise then i want lots of it, my mate has an mr2 turbo, mine is as fast 2nd gear upwards but i just can't keep up on acceleration from a standing start, hopefully i will be able to beat his" jap crap" once i have done the mods,i would post a pic of my car but , A i don't have it at the m
  9. I want to get the most power possible but be careful i don't knacker my standard compression pistons, i might just go with 6 psi if that gives 80 bhp, just to be on the safe side !! Thats more than enough, that should take my car well over the 300 bhp barrier, just need to fit wings and it will fly!! Thanks for the advice guys , any more opinions and advice is welcomed!!
  10. Yeah they are on vr's my light comes on every few months, it does indicate wear on the brake pads, sounds like you might have disconnected or damaged the sensor?? I'm no auto electrician by any means though so don't quote me on that!!
  11. So could i get away with a low pressure charger?? Maybe about 8 psi!! Is that low pressure for a supercharger?? Even if it gives me 30 or 40 bhp extra insted of the usual 75 bhp a charger gives i will be well happy.
  12. Hi guys , like i have said before my car is almost finished with the 3 litre conversion, i am having new pistons in my car and there is a choice of 2 , one set for normally aspirated and one for forced ie supercharger or turbo, i am pretty sure that i have the pistons for a NA car not the forced induction ones, what is the difference?? Will i melt my pistons if i put a charger on my car??? I'm pretty sure they have been fitted already so i can't change the pistons i have , HELLLPPP
  13. I have wasted 2 subarus at the same time on the motorway, one was the impreza turbo and one was a wrx(i think) when i say wasted i mean crawled past them but i still won!! 150mph topped out though, i spoke to both of them when we came of the same slip road and they were very surprised,i then raced them on a b road off the motorway right after, they left me for dead!!!! God i wish i had 4x4!! 8o)
  14. I have heard the pipercross viper has a habit of falling apart on vr's, I have had two people say this has happened plus they are about £250 , BMC sounds like the best bet!!
  15. not sure if this has posted once already!! i have a pipercross induction kit, £70, it sounds good but loses power when the engine is warm, might invest in a bmc carbon fibre kit instead
