  1. Had this a couple of times before running bkr7e, after a few basic checks like injector flow and coilpack, even plug gapping, I ended up going to a colder plug, bcr8es and this solved the melting electrode issue but I ended up with poor cold starts. I just needed up living with it but never had a melted plug again. At 28psi on a 6262 I would expect to see over 500 at the wheels tbh so you have plenty left in those injectors, I would also make sure your pump is keeping up. You at 3 bar base fuel pressure?

  2. well i knew from the beginning that as soon as i breached 300bhp it would become pretty undrivable, so didnt expect to chop my times from last year by much. so 2 tenths is ok i guess. but it is so much better once its moving, race me in 3rd and anyone will see why this car is a monster lol. 425lb torque will pull me well off the clock in only a few seconds. it also isnt built to be a race car, its a cruiser, a but of poke to go with the luxury of a cabriolet. and its mainly shock value. after my first burnout before the run up the strip i could hear the crowd cheering lol. they must have loved the sound ha ha. ill just keep perfecting my launch and see if i can tame the right foot a little to drop my times.

  3. went to santa pod at the weekend and had a great time. ran my car down the strip and was sorely dissapointed. i ran a 13.6 last year with 340bhp. this time round with the bigger turbo and a better setup, i ran 13.4 with 405bhp. so i guess big power really isnt whats needed on the strip, its about getting the power down and having a car set up for the track also helps. i am still happy though as a 13.4 isnt an awful time in a big heavy thing like my car, and the fact that its a road car and not built for track.

so to those wanting a rapid car, they should think more about traction, and gearing than outright power. but having 400 horses is still major fun lol,

  4. your claiming it won`t handle 650bhp how do you know ?? not asking wot you have read or seen' date=' have you tested it ? maybe the turbo he has is right for the car and box , maybe your gt30r is to harsh for your gearbox, my t70 is i found that out also my gt35r , but things have to be pushed, otherwise you`ll never find its limit, its all down to luck and wot you want and how its setup, maybe he`s got it right and you`ve got it wrong or vice versa, no need either of you to be like this, i know wot he has, if he don`t wanna tell up to him i`m saying nothing but bickering about most power is nothing, torque causes the problems for gearboxes

    [/quote']

Yes exactly torque ! at 650bhp it must be at least 500ftlb into a gear box that can break on standard power !

i have 2 friends who have been battling each other for years one has an r32 skyline the other an r33 skyline, they have both built the things themselves and power figures are 988bhp/885lb torque, and 1107bhp/902lb torque respectively. neither of them have spent any more than £500 on their gearboxes, and both have lasted at these figures for nearly a year since they were proven. not saying that every gearbox is the same and will break at a set fugire here, but im sure that 1k bhp and 900lb torque would kill almost any box in theory, but hmmm. no neither of them have even needed a change of box oil.

so leave the guy alone. hes claimed his figures and you bit. i guess you have a problem with someone who makes a quicker car than you and doesnt go waving his printouts around. maybe the guy built the car for himself and doesnt want to discuss his spec with you. i think the main key here is to get yourselves to usc at santa pod and well all take a few runs down the strip and see who wins. at the end of the day, power is nothing when your a sh1t driver lol.

oh, and i made 405bhp and 425lb torque just to rub it in to all you lowly creatures. ha ha!

  5. i know its probably too late, but when you mount the solenoid, make sure you use more than the silly rubber mount the give you, as it does open and close with a major clatter, and will sound awful. i custom made my own sandwich mount from some 1/4" rubber matting on bottom with mounting lugs, about 1" of sikaflex sealant and another 1/4" mat on top with the solenoid mounted to this. made it almost silent.

oh, and i can hear my wastegate open up and i have it vented back to exhaust, its just like a pft pft pft of air (sorry, its the best description i could muster up lol)

  6. hey kev. what you using to map timing? monitor wise i mean, i was thinking of setting up a knock sensor/phono lead thing into my head unit and use that, but i think engine noise will be too prominant. and what should i be looking for on the egt side of things as ive got myself a sensor and im assuming i can monitor timing adjustments with egt readings. could do with some advice on this side of things. cheers.

  7. a few pointers to note before you go further.

what engine mods do you have, or have planned. if the answer is none, or exhaust/filter. then dont bother with overbores, not cost effective. if you say s/c, turbo. then will be worth it on a forged piston level (low compression), but still not cost effective as you can just up the boost for the same gains. but if you say your building a big NA motor, and you have cams/schrick vgi and various other stuff, or individual throttle bodies, then it works more effectively if you raise the compressions. but realistically not worth the pain and heartach on an everyday engine when it breaks (which it will lol)

the rods can stay, just make sure your bushes/bearing shells are all in good order, pistons should come with piston, rings, gudgeon pins and clips.

JE are a noisy piston in my opinion, theyre bad for piston slap when cold, but every engine takes it differently. im going for wiseco for my 2nd rebuild (1st 3.0l blew up) so now im going for a 2.9, 82mm as i think the walls are to thin to shed heat effectively from an 83mm.

all that said though, there have been many engines used 83mm and lasted forever, so can be done. but id spend the money elsewhere like a good filter/exhaust, cams and remap. you would see the same gains as a basic rebore. or budget a little higher and throw a s/c on it lol.

  8. i bought a mk3 cabriolet for £1350. stolen the heated leather inc cards from it and a black dashboard, carpet and various other bits of trim and clips so my interior was pretty much brand new. drove it for 3 months while my car was off the road and then spent £30 on top strut bearings/bushes, £40 mot, and sold it on for £1400. lol. then as i had the cash laying round i bought myself a Yamaha R6 for £2050, rode it for 6 months mot,d it and sold it for £2350 lol.

  9. i actually like it. im usually a hip hop/indie kinda guy but been getting into the electro dance thing recently and this is like a blend of them all. lol.

can i download it off there or what, need to listen to it on some better speakers in my van. lol.

  10. hope you know i wasnt having a crack at you lol. as you can see from the pictures im no brad pitt in the beer belly department lol.

and yeah the pain is a little odd. being a skater in the olden days, i quite like the idea of pain, it helps you focus.

  11. I'm dying to get one just want something original and cant think where to have it done.

Wanted one down my ribs but need to lose wight and tone up more first!! lol

no man. get it done while your chubby.... lol the vibrations into your ribs from the needle is bad enough, without padding would be a bit of a hardship. although they do say that tattooing fat hurts more. i didnt notice that though lol. and ribs is supposedly the 3rd worst area to tattoo, 2nd is foot, and obviously 1st is groin.

  12. yeah the ribs were a bit sore. still been thinking about where i would get one of my car if i really did go ahead with it. still think its probs a bad idea though maybe. and i really have to wait until next year to even consider another, as you all say im sure they put nicotine in the ink, if im not careful ill end up covered in them, and its not really how i want to end up lol.

    cheers for the comments people.

  13. bearfinale001.jpg

just got this finished off a couple of weeks ago, it was my first and was pretty painful. took 6 hours over two 3 hour sessions. all the tones have settled now and isnt red anymore (i was just sore at the time lol) its a little nod to the fact that my mates call me bear hands as theyre pretty rough palms due to me being an electrician, but my mate drew the design and it came out brilliantly.

been thinking about getting one of my car next maybe, if i can get the right picture of it once its rebuilt. as its been a big part of my life for over 4 years now.

anyone else got any pics of their tattoos?

  14. i kinda like the idea of smoothing the boot. will look different and make the car look really complete, just remember its gonna be a ball ache to get at those rear lights though if you need to change a lamp. lol.

and lose the fogs. your going all out smoothing the boot, may as well get rid of the fogs too. and if your leaving the bumpers textured, id say leave the sidestrips textured too, and dont colour code any of the lower splitters either.

  15. just wanted to say thanks for a good weekend to those that welcomed me and my bro into the clique, really enjoyed the weekend. sorry i didnt pop over and say bye on sunday, but seeing as though we didnt get up till midday all the spots were taken on the stand so ended up parking miles away, had a browse round and decided to bail before the exit traffic got too hectic. and to those that got a run out in my car hope you all enjoyed it and my dodgy driving didnt put you off being a passenger again lol. cant wait till the next time i meet you lot. matt.

  16. well im coming down on friday night as if i can finalise my MOT (just done my 312 brake swap in the nick of time) if not it will be sat morning. dont know of any convoys from my way so will just tag along with any nice vdubs i see on the way lol.

what i do want to know is, where are you all planning on camping? together in one large group or what, cos me and my bro want to latch on to you all if so, cos wed get bored tenting on our own lol.

  17. if that was the case then you would smell the fuel from the exhaust and it would just crank over and over. maybe splutter every now and then. try the old injectors in and see if she goes, as long as you dont drive it into boost it will run on standard injectors/chip, so stay below 3k rpm. then get it to a tuner and have them swap the injectors and play with the mapping.
