Cheers ingham - any tips on the spring?? - found it a b1tch on a mk2. Ended up tying it up tensioned with wire before fitting it then cutting it!

Found the issue - VW's cruddy spot welding.... Anyone know how to replace this pedal??

Just got in the car and hit the clutch to a loud thump/twang and the clutch pedal went straight to the floor and stayed there. I can pull it back up, it will stay in either position. Found piece of white plastic in the foot well - cannot for the life of me find the clutch cable in the engine bay (used to mk2's!). Its hydralic on this isn't it? Pics of the plastic to follow - doesn't LOOK broke to me, can I just assemble this back together? I can see the end of the clutch cable inside the car, looks more like a rod - how do I depress the clutch from within the engine bay to get this back toget

excellent advice - especially since a mate was just telling me that they were £25 ea. from VAG!!! (I have not checked this tho!) TBH, there's one major flaw in your plan though - it involves going into Halfords.....
